2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

I don't think Carlo is the best coach for a grind out ugly wins kind of team. He is a coach that likes good attacking football.

There are many coaches that could probably do better with the limited squad he had available

But we are not trying to be an ugly mid table team that grinds out wins. We are a team trying to move forward and improve our quality and there is no better coach for us than Carlo for that.

I back him. We are moving in the right direction

Allardyce could grind out points for us with a tosh team. Just saying.

The one mantra Allardyce lived by was getting each player to perform one job and one job only.. preferably their most suited job. It's why he's always been know for grinding out results with limited teams.

To a degree, he didn't do too bad job here in that regard.. but the footy was awful to watch and wouldn't have changed.

Oh yeh I don't want him here just saying I don't believe you always need good players to get results.

Jesus I can’t believe that some fans are slating Carlo, it was only 3/4weeks ago everyone was singing Get down to Goodison Park
If you accept the plaudits you have to accept the criticism. It was just quite a poor decision on his end in terms of players to start and players to bring on. Every single person on here saw that lineup and thought "Christ that's going to not be a pretty match" because he chose 5 midfielders with no width or pace to speak of.

Not to mention he, for whatever reason, thinks Gylfi is even a serviceable player instead of the usual liability he is. AND chose him to play with probably our only slower player in the team.

It’s clear that we need an option with pace whenever Richy is out. Carlo even knows that as he said it himself after the game. Only players that come to mind are Niels and Gordon. Why we let Walcott go without getting a replacement is beyond me.

Allardyce-ball was awful but you've highlighted exactly what he needed to do, make a team work better and more cohesive than the sum of its parts.

Don't forget Kean. We have 0 cover for RW and striker. How does that happen?
It’s either on Carlo or Brands. Question is who sanctioned all of this? It just sounds like the typical poor planning from us. It would be different if Carlo saw Ant as Theo’s replacement. But he doesn’t seem to. Hell, he went out of his way not to play him yesterday

Take mane and salah out of liverpool
Take son and kane out of spurs....
Same with a few others. They become pretty toothless.
We all knew it. Lose our key players and we're in trouble.
Some of the comments now are unreal. But predictable. I read on here someone saying other managers have improved players when went in. Calvert lewin is the leagues top scorer. Whats that then? But he has clearly improved with our strongest line up supplying him.
The only real battering ram some are using for yesterday is Gordon. Yeah id like to see him involved more but he is not the difference between losing 4 key players right now. The poor quality back up is.
It will take time to sort that. Best thing for us is we get those missing back and pray we get lucky until we can start bringing in more reliable players.

Ancelotti said it last year; we need three new positions (players) to make us competitive. After 7 games we're third in the league. That's competitive.

In a recent interview he said our next step, next season, is to be winners. Being competitive is not the same as winning. He knows well what's needed. It's 'evolution, not revolution.'

At the end of last season everybody's head was falling off. Despite us being so crap, he was right, we only needed a three key signings to take us up a level. Give him time, patience and resources and he'll get us exactly where he said he would.

In the meantime, yes, it'll be painful to watch the usual suspects tog out for us on occassion. Unfortunately it's a necessary step to where we're going.

His management style is to give as much loyalty and support as is humanly possible. That will involve giving certain senior pros as much rope as he can to either pull themselves ashore, or hang themselves. The big picture of course is what that support does for the players who make it.

The thing that has really frustrated me in the last two games is how slow we have played. Not taking the game on and being decisive when passing.
A lack of creativity is one thing, but no tempo to play is another.
I really hope Carlo works to fix this in lieu of a naturally creative CM.

Which is where a bit of frustration creeps in for me that we didn't push the boat out at the end of the window for that additional, real quality player or, at the very least, a reliable rotation option for our front line.

It felt like an opportunity missed at the time and one or two games later it's proved to be the case, even if having - for example - Josh King on Sunday may not have solved all our issues.
Exactly. It's like having a feeling th
He's past his sell by date, plus he has a bang average squad, put those two together, & disaster looms !!
Seriously? Some people on here are weird. We have 2 bad results and all if a sudden he's past his sell by date. Have a word with yourself. He's the best we will ever likely to have so appreciate it. We have a squad full of below average players and statuesque footballers like Gylfi - no manager is making them competitive.
**This is in response to Brendan Janus' comment btw**

It may take more than just one CM. Whst we need to do is look at the likes of Leeds, Wolves, and Leicester. The top 6 have more talented players that cost a significant amount, yes, but what these other teams have is dynamism, resilience, guile, speed, tenacity, hard working people who are runners all over place.

We are way too static (Sigurdsson; Gomes et al) to compete with them. We need to not just buy one or 2 of these types of players that can cover some ground, but a whole collective of them, like these teams are doing. The good news is we can attract better names now, that's our advantage. Hence why it's imperative we change the moral and only employ hungry mobile players from now on otherwise we are not getting in the modern needs of the game. The only issue is I'm not convinced Brands will do this.
