2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Given that Newcastle did the double over us and that we only got one point off Burnley and Villa and lost at home to the likes of Leeds and Fulham, I don't think we've overachieved at all. Doing the double over Arsenal was nice in terms of recent history, but they're on the decline and will likely finish below us.

What about taking 4 points of Liverpool, 4 points (should have been 6) off Spurs, beating Spurs in the cup, coming from two down at Old Trafford, taking 4 points (should have been 6) off Leicester.

They're pretty far ahead for me. Without some serious signings this summer I have a hard time making a case for us finishing ahead of them next season.
They haven’t replaced Vardy they just luckily ran into playing him and kalechi 2 upfront which worked when they was in free fall losing game after game

Leicester have finished 9th, 12th, 12th the last few years, dont be giving me they are miles ahead of us bollox.

FFS

Wigan won an FA Cup, they also werent miles ahead of us.

You people, so reactionary.

It’s the typical fan Everton pre match build up :

Predict heavy defeat
Big up team....... insert name
Wank over ......... insert manager
Slag off ................insert player
Slag of Ancelotti
Slag off Brands
Slag off club

Makes you wonder about some of our fanbase doesn’t it ?

They're a good side but by no means out of our reach.

Spurs aren't any better than we are, the Crimson Crap hare having a mare of a title defence as some of their results have shown, and we've come back from two down at Old Trafford before. The results I mentioned cancel out any improvements against the so-called top six. This is no indictment of Ancelotti whatsoever -- I'm ecstatic he's our manager and with better players at his disposal, we'll see more of the results you mentioned and fewer of the ones I cited.

....I think we’ve taken 4 points off Leicester including a win at their place. Saying that, the league doesn’t lie at this stage and they are superior to us. I don’t think they are ‘miles better’, but they are better. Man City are miles better.

I think there’s a group of teams where there isn’t that much between them.
When you say there’s a group of teams where there isn’t that much between them, I agree, but our group is Everton, Arsenal and West Ham, while there group is more Liverpool and Spurs.
Villa and Leeds are closer to our group then we are to the Leicester.

The difference between 9/10 and 4/5 is pretty marginal.

But for a reasonable backup right back and a right winger, we would probably be fourth this season.

If any of Tosun, Bolasie, Iwobi, Delph, Walcott, Bernard, Besic or Kenny been any good, or Gbamin stayed fit, I’m sure we would have been in the top four.

We have the numbers, but the margins are tight.

...I think I’d put us with Spurs. Only goal difference between us, we won at their place, knocked them out the Cup and missed a bagful of chances recently in the home draw. I think the Reds are superior.

I appreciate they have high-profile individuals but we shouldn’t dismiss our chances of finishing above them next season.

I don’t think we’ve overachieved but I think there has been progression . I thought the squad by the end of 17/18 was one of the worst in the league and definitely bottom half (even if Allardyce scraped us into a ridiculous 8th place after we’d spent the season battling to keep away from relegation)

At the start of this season I thought we had the 9th best squad so we’ll probably finish about right. Some have over achieved (West Ham) others have under achieved (Arsenal) but looking at the squads on paper I can’t make a case for our squad being better than any of the squads finishing ahead of us. The fact that we’re close to them, have beaten a lot of them, and competed all season long with them is progression.

It’s also progression to have injuries and finish where we should be rather than in previous seasons were a few injuries meant a spiral towards relegation and a change in manager. The R word hasn’t been mentioned this season which like it or not is a step forward from the seasons 14/15, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20.

I’m hoping we can make another step next season. Get even more consistency especially with fans back. Qualify for Europe, push the top 4 even harder for longer, continue to go as deep as we can in the cups. If we do this each season and keep improving then success will arrive.

Absolutely true. The season is still alive in May with an outside chance of fourth.

We also made some headway in the cup competitions as well.

Another summer of change and we’ll be a better prospect next year. I’m sure some of the problem areas in the squad will be addressed, RB, RW etc.

Next season we’ll be much better, I can feel it.

Most outsiders would have very few if any everton players in a combined starting 11. They currently are also much more entertaining to watch.

For me its isnt reactionary. Its reality. Our after Christmas form and demeanor made me think we would finish 9th or 10th. We still have a lot of mid table players in our team. Until we improve our mobility and quality Leicester will widen the gap between us by attracting a better quality player due to champions league and trophy winning ability. Leicesters recruitment has been astonishing last 5 years. Their club spirt is also something to admire.

Carlo is our ticket to being able to attract quality this summer. We would need 4 to 5 starters to stay with Leicester next season. He brought in quality last summer but I believe our squad badly needs pace and movement. Players in the godfrey mould. Fit, string, mobile and aggressive.
