2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Bar man City all teams are having these results...
A season like this is the only realistic time we could have gotten a CL spot. That's the frustration.

Personally, I always expected them to collapse. It's a club and squad with no self belief. They're losers. Ancelotti must look at them and think "WTF - Fulham and Newcastle are no brainer 6 points in the bag. What kind of players do I have here".

I mean there’s no way Carlo sends them out saying “right lads, no intensity today, sit off them, don’t match their effort or desire to win the game, largely just stroll about and it’ll be fine”. He must be as frustrated as we are seeing non-performances against poor teams.

He didn’t get the line up right last night though. I’m really hoping he can see who the serial offenders are and is working with Brands to move them on in the summer.

8th-10th this season, long way for us to go as a team.
To an extent, I think he does. Not in so many words obviously, but there's very little evidence over the past 14 months to suggest that he prioritises intensity, hard work, and full blooded challenges. We have a very passive style of play, we're not set up to engage in battles and we make very little attempt to put teams on the back foot. On the ball we seem to want to just stroke the ball around slowly, waiting for the opportunity to progress it forward with James, Gomes or Digne, but we're not good enough in possession to do it and so we either end up being forced backwards or we give it away. I'm not saying it's all on him, but I just don't buy this 'what can he do if the players play like that' line. Sometimes a performance is quite clearly not a reflection of what the manager asked for, but often with us I think it is. It's not executed how he wants, obviously, but the basis of the performance doesn't seem to be too far away from what is being planned.

We've had 4 of them now, not acceptable

Even if we had turned 1 into a win we'd be in a far better position. It's a weak weak mentality around the club. The comments after the game about tiredness took the biscuit. Is it any wonder we are consistently rubbish when we roll out tosh like that as an excuse.

I doubt other teams are being bummed left right and centre at home to the point where they only have one shot on target and being totally outplayed in every statistical department? Results are fine, it’s okay to lose, to go down having been battered with no response? Nah not acceptable.

I'm sure fans of West Ham, Southampton, Chelsea, Spurs, Wolves are all thinking the same.

I hope he doesn't lose faith in the club. I could easily see him leaving us: a group of jellyfish players and living in a place where his daughter is almost fighting off armed robbers...in the middle of a pandemic in a country that's a Covid19 banana republic.

I'd be on the first possible flight out to Turin.

The one thing I simply can't accept about our home performances against the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Fulham is the low block - it's completely unnecessary against poorer sides.

Every single time we lose the ball the team automatically drops back 15 yards. Compare that to Fulham yesterday who pushed up when they lost the ball to try and win it back as soon as possible (which they often did).

It's not pragmatic, it's downright negative. By all means play like that in away games, but at home against dross like Fulham and Newcastle? Nah.

Please don’t let this detract from your meltdown gents.
Why is discussing this classed as a “meltdown?”
It’s a forum to discuss Everton related things and we are discussing yesterday’s appalling performance.

why do people do this? Do they think it’s edgy? Is it to try and look knowledgeable? I honestly don’t get it.

I’m pretty sure he knew it was more than a 1 season project.

The other stuff yeah I guess.

He isn't daft. He knows this season is an abberation. You seize the day. He had every right to believe that he could rest up a couple of CDs and still get past the worst club in the PL.
