2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

A few points off the champions league places with 2 games in hand in February! Never been in such a good position to go for champions league since 2005. Carlo freaking Ancelotti is in charge for his first season so its not like a freak accident we are this well positioned.

And yet there's calls to trust Carlo on this very February and its not an unwarranted call as there's a ridiculous number of people questioning him.

We are insane.

I'm buzzing about our position and having Carlo. His first half season after a decade of no hope. And look where we are.
It’s absolutely right to question him though. It’s wrong to talk of him being sacked or being a failure or whatever (which almost nobody is doing despite the usual claims to the contrary) but some of our recent home performances have been nothing short of dreadful. If you can’t question a manager when you haven’t beaten a PL team at home over 90 minutes in your last 6 attempts (and you’d have to say it would be an enormous shock if that didn’t become 7 tomorrow) then I’m not sure when you can.

Spot on mate.

I think the 4 (5 with Branthwaite!) that we have are perfectly acceptable and gives us strong cover.

Just stop chopping and changing them.
Branthwaite will need this season and next on loan before he can come into our squad
Hopefully he plays well enough for Blackburn that they or another high ranking Championship team take him on loan next season

It isn't the derby that has got me on edge, it's the abject failure to get results against the lower placed teams and not learning from previous mistakes. It is perfectly reasonable to question the manager's input in these circumstances, I am not one for blind faith.
I don't think it's blind faith though. We're in a good league position with good points per game.

I agree some of the losses we've had are massively frustrating, Fulham being the latest.

Obviously we'll know more at the end of the season but at this point in time we are doing ok and have a platform for a successful season.

After this week, there's no midweek matches which gives the teams not in Europe plenty of time between games to get fitness and tactics sorted. It will be interesting to see who pushed on and who stands still or goes backwards. You would hope if we can get Mina and Keane playing together, Allan and Doucoure playing together, Digne back properly fit, and DCL fit, we would have a shot at Europe. It will be interesting.

There is nothing wrong with saying it go it wrong in this game, and a few others, as he obviously did but people are acting like he is the only manager ever to get a tactic wrong and to lose a game against 'lower opposition'.
If you look at the results they've had across the year, Fulham have been difficult opposition for lots of teams.

Lots of draws and losses by a single goal margin.

He got it wrong in formation, team selection and some questionable decisions during the game, but we have easily enough talent to beat Fulham, the players just could not be arsed.

For anyone questioning Carlo I will just try to put it into some kind of perspective.

At this stage for probably the last 5 seasons at least we have all been saying how our season is over and we need to build towards a good summer window in the hope of things being different next year. In Carlo’s first full season, we have a cup challenge still going and an outside chance at top four but at worst a fair chance at top 6.

Carlo is going to make mistakes of course but I think some of his mistakes are borne out of the fact that he has to hope the squad of players can come into the first 11 and do an adequate job and he soon realises that’s not the case with this Everton squad at the minute.

I wasn't laying that at your door, but I must admit I find it frustrating that any criticism is labelled as uninformed or even madness. I am mad about the state of our recent performances, and it appears to me that some lessons have not been learned.

King is not match fit and it showed on Sunday
He’s only gonna get match fit by playing matches

he was fit enough to do an hour or, at the very least, come on at half-time so that it was at least a positive move

there’s no excuse for carlo’s system the other day and no excuse for him not to change it sooner than he did - it was tosh

Very dangerous and cult-like this mentality of not being allowed to question a single decision he makes because he’s Carlo Ancelotti and doesn’t get things wrong.

It doesn't matter if its at home in this climate. There is no home advantage. Its same reason I won't over praise the away record. Just happy with the season in general.
