2018/19 Cenk Tosun

He’s effectively a back up striker now. Not sure if we went on the market we’d get a better back up striker who would be happy to sit on the bench behind Richarlison. Richarlison Tosun Calvert Lewin Niasse is enough given where we are currently. It would be great to have an Aguero/Kane level player upfront but when you consider the rest of the top 6 they don’t really have them either. Firmino, Morata, Lacazette, Lukaku are definitely a level below those two. Who is to say Richarlison can’t get to that level? He’s certainly hitting the goals currently to do it. Tosun would then be competing against the likes of Lorente, Giroud, Welbeck, Sturridge, Rashford. Rashford aside, how many are that lot going to score each? Tosun is not a problem for us.

totally spot on. Niasse can be sold now, i said at the time he would be useful to us as a 3rd choice for the first half of the season, but he definitely has no future here now, nor should he given where we want to be, he did some great things for us last season though.

Even if we buy a new striker, tosun doesn't need to be sold. Calvert-Lewin coming on ahead of him though is worrying, i don't agree with that.

He couldn't be arsed last night. Set up Lookman's opener but apart from that looked way off the pace. Ball bounced off him so much I thought Rom was back. Plus he's started moaning at other players. Hope this isn't the first sign he's becoming disgruntled sitting on the bench.

Anyway, the attitude he showed last night certainly isn't going to play his way back into Marco's plans.

Ive just read that we are selling Cenk n buying someone from the Danish league lol wtf. It's on talksport I'm not linking it as i think it's laughable.

Moaning at other players? Are you thinking of him yelling at Lookman for always sending the ball in behind him, when he obviously needed it in front? Cause if I was a striker, Id give Lookman a moaning too. Tosun set up Lookmans goal easy, Lookman never got close to paying him back with a good pass.
He doesnt seem disgruntled at all to me and looked really good when he came on and scored the other week. If he can keep bringing that sort of impact when coming on, he’ll be great for us as a backup.

I'm glad I never played football with you mate. We'd have been coming to blows if you yelled at me every time I made a bad pass.lol

Yeah, that was mainly what I was referring to. It was a poor pass by Lookman but Tosun went on about it for a while, having at least 3 goes at him that I saw, Which I've never seen from him before.

But Tosun was poor last night, in every aspect of his game except for the goal he set up for Lookman, which I already gave him credit for. It wasn't just that though. His body language screamed to me that he didn't want to be there, shoulders slumped sort of thing. Which again, is something I've not seen from him before, much like his berating of Lookman. It may well have been that it was a friendly and he didn't want to get injured. Maybe he was feeling under the weather.

I've seen him play poorly before like against West Ham, but at least he still gave his all. Last night I don't think he did and I stand by that.

If I were a striker and every pass you made was behind me, Im sure Id make you aware of my thoughts on your passing fairly quickly. Had it been one pass every now and then, thats a different topic. Lookmans passing to Tosun yesterday was worse than missing one out of five, and I dont think it was out of order to let him know that he needed to do better.

I agree that Tosun wasnt at his best last night, but I think your jumping to conclusions. I think he sees himself as a first teamer, and didnt want to risk getting his spot taken away because of an injury suffered against a rando team from africa. I wish he would have given it his all, but I do understand why he would play a reserved game. If I was Marco, I would probably have started Niasse, and given Tosun the last 15.

I missed the first 10 mins but that was the first pass I noticed from him that went awry. I don't remember too many after either, although there were probably one or two that he could passed but decided not too. Something the youngster needs to learn.

Anyway I didn't actually say Tosun was disgruntled. The actual wording I used was that I hope these aren't the first signs he's growing disgruntled on the bench. It looks to be a pretty happy dressing room at the moment and you don't want anything upsetting that. The weekend was the first time he's been fit and not got any minutes I think so. As I say, it could have been the fact it was just a friendly. But even so that's not the way to play his way back in.

You may be right and it was just an off day.

Tosun talks to Goal Turkiye magazine. Some relevant parts.

[......With Big Sam, we were mostly defending, more long balls, winning balls and going for counter-attacks and trying to score that way. After coach Silva arrived, we are playing way more offensively. No matter the opposition is, we are trying to meet the opoonent in second and third zone. Passing cleverly and trying score with more attacking mind. I can say a clear change of mentality in that regard.]

[.....To be honest, I am getting along with everybody here. All of the folks are pretty warm and friendly. The one I get along well most is Seamus (Coleman). He helped me a lot when I was settling in. A legend for this club, playing for 9-10 years. Fans adore him. By the way, he wears my favourite number (23) on his shirt, but I don't mind (laughs) Also Maarten (Stekelenburg) too is someone I am close with. We are hanging out often.]

[....Duncon Ferguson is a player Everton fans appreciated a lot back in the day. A fighter, what he was. When fans liken me to Ferguson, it makes me proud. We are training hard with Duncon, especially finishing. He helped me massively for my game, and still is.]

About breaking through Top 6 teams

[ Well, I think we are clearly the best team, following top 6 sides in the league. We have to play in Europe, that should be our aim, every year, no matter what. We have a quality team this season, had great new players in summer, everybody is trying hard for every match. What this club and fans deserve at the end of the season is, finishing in a place that will send us to Europe, that is our main aim. So yes, top 6 or at the very least 7 must be the minimum target for us.]

[ Marcel Brands is a top character. Very professional. He joins us during lunches, tries to cheer the squad up all the time. It is a great plus for the club. He nailed the transfers this summer, you can say we spent a lot, but all of them were the exact players that we needed.]

About Merseyside derby

[.....I played once, it is a truly special match. Incredible atmosphere. Nobody should have doubts about us players' motivation coming to that fixture. You can not not be motivated if you are playing against Liverpool in an Everton shirt. Personally, I am so looking forward to the derby. If I can score in that one, I know fans will love me even more and I will be a true Evertonian, so hopefuly I can achieve that. But the most important is that we win the match, it has a great significance to our fans' hearts.]

Seems like a decent lad to me and am perfectly happy to have him as back up, but we need to go all out for a top class striker as soon as possible.
