you can see the difference in movement when he plays compared to when oumar and even bambi Lewin do, oumar always gets himself several chances and dcl gets himself a couple yet this slug wants it on a plate.
if he could get himself to positions he wouldnt be here, he would be a worldclass striker like suarez. the problem is hes not mobile but he can finish. if you give him chances he will finish but if you dont then he wont score on a regular basis especially in the PL where game is harder. if he was playin in spain he could get more goals but in this league and this team(non-attacking i mean) its very hard for him to score

I can't think of a player he's less like than Suarez. He lacks literally everything that makes Suarez so good.

As an aside, relating to a number of posts from others aswell, his finishing is OK but it's a long way from being fantastic. He's had some good chances that he's not put away this season, and his goalscoring record over his entire career is very very average. He has the ability to strike the ball very cleanly on occasion, but he'd be a long long way down the list if I had to pick someone for a chance to fall to for us win us a trophy.

Mate he is the polar opposite of Suarez.

He's not actually as great a finisher as everyone makes out either though, he's pretty average.

The problem with the "give him chances and he will score" argument is that he makes it difficult for players to give him the chances. He's never in a threatening position, because our wingers are bombing it down the pitch and he's too slow to keep up.

Cenk Tosun not good enough he is not a slotter...

Niasse is the better option & Dcl will be when he gains more confidence & experience....

In fairness to cenk I think his role when he plays (and I'm not saying he should) is not to score goals but to hold the ball up and lead the line, allowing those behind him to score. With gylfi/Richy/Walcott behind him we don't really need him to be the one slotting.

Maybe partly true however Cenk is way off the pace & has not got the guile or the repertoire to become a top slotter....
We need better & the sooner the better...

???

My view/point is that we're offloading/loaning out poorly.

Players we need to answer questions, like Vlasic (and Dowell?) are going to no-mark leagues that don't help answer those questions.

We're loaning established names at 29 (Bolasie, Mirallas) to clubs/leagues that will never pay a transfer fee that tops the wages saved. The Olympiakos loan was daft and Fiorentina not much better.

Heck, even the £8m odd for Funes Mori was poor. We signed him from River Plate in 2015 for more than that, he then establishes himself in the Prem and at 26, we sell an Argentinian International for £8m. I saw him score for Argentina against Mexico the other week and thought he must be worth double what Everton sold him for in today's market. We signed a Newcastle academy player for our academy for £5m...

As for Cenk Tosun, as I said on 1st Jan before we signed him;

I wasn't wrong and I'm still not.

Totally agree, fans on here went on about how what we sold Klaassen for was a good deal, no it bloody wasn't. One bad season in the prem didn't mean he'd lost £10m in value. Just look at the questionable prices the RS get for unproven crap like Ibe, we'd have got about £3m for him.

Didn't help that we overpaid for the majority of our signings to begin with, we were always going to take massive losses on them

I have been mildly surprised at Cenks drop off, before the season started I thought with his finishing ability he would hit 15+ but we have put better players around him and he's got worse. Nice lad, not the striker we need at the moment though.

I really like Cenk. I think he's one of the better finishers at the club and I think technically he is good.

But it's clear that, unfortunately, he doesn't suit the system Silva wants to play because he simply isn't quick enough.

He works hard, but he doesn't have the attributes to press and stretch teams. He actually makes good darting runs but the issue is we're so much deeper when he plays that he quickly becomes isolated.

If he starts, it means we have to adapt our system and play a different way. Other than that, he simply can't start because it means our system falls down, and he'll have to be restricted to sub appearances when the game is a bit more stretched.

I don't think he's got worse though, he just doesn't suit the system we play. There's a difference.

Don't think it's as much a Jelavic-esque loss of form as it's simply not having the physical attributes to play in that role in the way that Silva wants.

That's a bad comparison to make though mate because Ibe went to another PL club.

No PL club wanted Klassen, clearly. The only interest was from abroad. And foreign clubs (of the level that wanted him) were not going to pay big money. So it was either loan him out, or get the money.

He is a slotter, though.

The issue is, that's all he really is. And Silva's system requires our striker to be able to do much more.
