Champions League revamp

What people don't understand is this isn't a 'sour grapes' reaction. We all already cope with inequity in the game financially. I've said many times that if Everton got the Man City owners, I wouldn't bat an eyelid - it's a shame but it's playing the game you find yourself in. It's the same as diving for a penalty; if you can, do it, it's an advantage.

However, this isn't like that. This is a closed shop, completely taking all meritocracy out of the game. It's creating the strongest glass ceiling imaginable, to the point where supporting a club would be absolutely pointless because you no longer have any aspiration or dream. If these clubs are allowed to continue in domestic leagues and competitions, they could - and would - be playing reserve teams of much more quality than the next best team in the league has after around 10 years, because they're getting 10x the money every single season.

"So you'd be made up if you had that advantage, right?" - no. Because it murders the game - if you're a Spurs fan rubbing your hands together in glee at this, you're a moron, because all this has ensured is that you have perpetuated a completely impenetrable wall towards titles and success forevermore; your club is no longer a football club, but a profit making business.

The Premier League, UEFA, everyone has to go incredibly hard on this. Ban them. All of them. Immediately.

......playing Devils Advocate;

1) If invited, would Everton have joined the European League?

2) Would your reaction be the same if Everton had joined?

There will be allegations of ‘sour grapes’, so might even be worth a options/questionnaire thread.
Yes to both.
This format is the final nail in the coffin for whatever football was, irrespective of who is involved.
I feel for my mates who support those teams. I’d be gutted if we were part of it (but not naive enough to think we wouldn’t be if the owners had a choice).
I’m gutted most about the implications for BMD though. I can’t see how it could possibly be feasible with the PL losing so much revenue no matter what the outcome.

What the hell??

1) I’d like to think not.
2) By reaction, you mean horrified? Yes.

I am a little confused, if this all happened somehow and they think they can stay in the prem league, does that basically mean that ending in the top 4 etc would mean nothing to any of them as they would have their own comp

Correct. There wouldn't be a top four anymore, there'd be a top six that gets wider and wider away from the rest of the league, and occasionally whoever finishes 7th or miraculously finishes 5th/6th would be 'invited' at their own discretion to come and play with the 'big boys' for a year or two.

The likes of Spurs and Arsenal have just signed up to a ‘competition’ they’ll never be allowed to win. There’s no information on how the two groups are split. I’ll bet right now that it will be done so that the 8 teams the big clubs want go to the knockout stages more or less every single season. The likes of Madrid and Barca aren’t going to not be in the final shakeup because Spurs had a decent season. It will be structurally designed for that not to happen. They’ve literally signed away their very being as a football club.

‘the game is about glory’.....signs up to closed shop they’ll probably never be able to win
