Champions League revamp

Liverpool supporters' group Spirit of Shankly (SOS) said it was "appalled" by the decision of Fenway Sports Group, the club's US-based owner. In a social media post, SOS said: "FSG have ignored fans in their relentless and greedy pursuit of money. Football is ours, not theirs. Our football club is ours not theirs."

Chelsea Supporters' Trust called the move "unforgivable" and said its members and "football supporters across the world have experienced the ultimate betrayal".

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust called the club's agreement to join "the death of Arsenal as a sporting institution", while Manchester City's Official Supporters Club said the move showed "those involved have zero regard for the game's traditions", adding it was "determined to fight against this proposed Super League".

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust had earlier said the proposals were "completely unacceptable" and the ESL "goes against everything football, and Manchester United, should stand for".

Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust said the ESL was a "concept driven by avarice and self-interest at the expense of the intrinsic values of the game we hold so dear".

I am a little confused, if this all happened somehow and they think they can stay in the prem league, does that basically mean that ending in the top 4 etc would mean nothing to any of them as they would have their own comp

It's logical questions like this that make it appear to be nothing more than a smokescreen designed to get more money out of UEFA for the Champions League.

What people don't understand is this isn't a 'sour grapes' reaction. We all already cope with inequity in the game financially. I've said many times that if Everton got the Man City owners, I wouldn't bat an eyelid - it's a shame but it's playing the game you find yourself in. It's the same as diving for a penalty; if you can, do it, it's an advantage.

However, this isn't like that. This is a closed shop, completely taking all meritocracy out of the game. It's creating the strongest glass ceiling imaginable, to the point where supporting a club would be absolutely pointless because you no longer have any aspiration or dream. If these clubs are allowed to continue in domestic leagues and competitions, they could - and would - be playing reserve teams of much more quality than the next best team in the league has after around 10 years, because they're getting 10x the money every single season.

"So you'd be made up if you had that advantage, right?" - no. Because it murders the game - if you're a Spurs fan rubbing your hands together in glee at this, you're a moron, because all this has ensured is that you have perpetuated a completely impenetrable wall towards titles and success forevermore; your club is no longer a football club, but a profit making business.

The Premier League, UEFA, everyone has to go incredibly hard on this. Ban them. All of them. Immediately.

I have little faith in the authorities having the guts to get these clubs out.

Would absolutely rejoice to see the news that they have been kicked out the domestic league would LOL so damn hard my spleen would erupt.

legacy, legacy, the legacies got it in for me

See, that's the thought we all had, but they've literally broken Premier League rules with that announcement last night. A core tenet of it.

It's too much for it just to be a smokescreen. They have to face severe, massive sanctions for what they've done already, no matter what happens now.

So the only logical conclusion from this is that they're prepared to walk away from domestic leagues. They have to be.

There is lots to be worked out but I think as it stands they would probably see the premier league as a secondary competition. "The Big Six" would probably field their strongest teams in the super league mid week games as where they end up in the Premier league will be less important. I would imagine that would be tough to take for the fans of these teams. Imagine a game between Man United and Liverpool in the Premier league where they are 7th and 8th in the table and fielding their reserves/ u23's because they are both playing away against Real Madrid and Barcelona on Wednesday night.

As it stands uefa have said that the Champions League would carry on without them, so if that's true; Everton, Leicester, West Ham and Leeds in it next season
