Champions League revamp

Roll on Brighton. Yay!!
It’s the Championship in disguise.
We would ave sub elite football in Europe.
The clubs forming that league are the drivers of football revenue. They will take with them a huge amount of the income potential. We will be on Championship levels of revenue.

dont worry mate, you can watch your local team and grab a pint in the pub like it's the 80s. no one stopping you from enjoying romantic football.

but for us with the distinguished taste, us that soothe something more refined than you common peasants can perceive, super league will do just fine
only reason why Everton did not say yes is because they never got invited.

Terrible shouts these. Disappointing coming from Evertonians.

The only I would accept that 4 club qualifying thing with the CL is if they scrapped FFP and let the rest of us spend what we want.

Wouldn't be arsed if Liverpool get a loophole into it if it means Usmanov and whoever can bankroll us into it on merit.

Otherwise thats it for me if they allow that + FFP strangling the rest of us.

Not fair on the remaining 12 clubs who can't afford to pump £200m on transfers every year. This is rotten to the very core and will allow the Super League clubs to have some of the best players in the world on the bench as backup.

Fan of Super League idea here.

Kinda boring to watch Sevilla, Porto and similar crap clubs in CL, when you know their limit is QF, SF if a miracle occurs. You know they're there just to participate and get a few extra mil to the budget, they're not there for actual competition.
You think Arsenal or SPurs will ever win this new league??

I'm an Australian, but been living in Malaysia for the past 7 years. I'm also Chinese as well.

This is just my opinion, but when I say the average person looks up to people with wealth, that's just what I see. Look at the way people treat celebrities, like royalty pretty much. There's no resentment, only admiring them for their hard work. Sure some of them worked hard, but there's no resentment of the extreme capitalist system that got them there in the first place. The fact they get rock bottom wages from their employers but yet look up to their employers at the same time. It's the dream that they can also be like that one day.

Japan/Singapore/S.Korea are all wealthy nations, with a reasonable standard of living vs countries like China, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and all the other South East Asian countries, and most of that is because of extreme capitalism where the very few have wealth vs the rest.

Anyway back to football, many middle income households in Malaysia have pay TV/cable TV surprisingly enough, I'd say more so than Australia has Pay TV though now most people have Netflix or something like it. Australia promotes Australian sport, and the prem is on too late (12am-6am) for people to care. But most of Malaysia's football watching revolves around the top 6 in the prem. It takes precedence over national sport. The papers always big up those teams, its a vicious cycle though, there's not enough success in those other teams to care.

Its not "capitalism" in the truest sense, its corrupt generational wealth.

Anyway, youre not really talking about Asia.....just malaysia.

The main reason i think that Malaysians have been watching English football above others is because there is still alot of British influence in Malaysia. Of course the culture is different but there are many things there which have been influenced by Britain.

Of course though the premier league is the best in the world and understanding English helps.

Again though, they didnt exactly jump onto the tv to watch the summer tournaments in Asia or US did they?

If tomorrow those 6 clubs ceased to exist you can bet your life that within a short space of time those same Malaysians will be 'cheering on' another team in the league and supporters group names will have changed.

So many of them switch between RS and United depending on how the wind blows anyway.

When you say "top 6 in the prem" im not sure youre grasping the fact that in the super league there are no incentives to win games?

Theres quite literally no competition and no advantage for them to compete at all.

The other thing you havent mentioned is that supporters clubs in Malaysia will be reading the online forums and media and seeing the uproar.

They will likely side with their clubs local fans.

An interesting thought from the Guardian: “National government may have limited formal powers to stop any super league. But local government may have more, stronger and long forgotten powers. Football Clubs use the name of their towns and cities with the permission of the local council. If Liverpool Council decides it no longer wants Liverpool FC to bear its name, then they could withdraw that right. The club could still exist and play in the new ESL but call itself something else (Red Mersey?) but they could no longer call itself Liverpool. That would be an utterly extraordinary move but maybe even the threat would be something.”

Email your councillors : )
Liverpool FC would form just as Goodison is vacated. Classic Everton move.

Let's not pretend like if we got offered to take part we wouldn't of. We've just been crap for so long the Super League doesn't need us.

I don't think we would have.

Why are some of our fans so hell bent on having a pop at the club over something that theoretically could have happened? It's madness.

Mate, this is exactly the same as the clubs going in the ESL - creating what they want. Any club coming into and/or staying there should do so by earning it. Me personally, I do not want to see Rangers or Celtic in the English football system and if they ever did, they should start of at the very bottom, so it wont happen.

I dont really see this happening anyway, as the Premier League are fairly toothless, kicking out the 6 clubs would be cutting off their nose to spite their face. But Ranger and Celtic coming in It is not the same as what the 12 clubs are doing because the Premier League would still exist with Promotion and Relegation. If 6 clubs were to leave the Premier League it is an unprecedented event, and the league would need to decide what to do. There would probably be no relegation that season and 6 clubs would have to be added from somewhere, or a decision made to play as a smaller league.

The main issue with the european super league is that there is no promotion and relegation to and from it. If teams qualified for this european super league through the premier league I dont think many people in England would oppose it, it would essentially just be giving 6 champions league places to the premier league. The premier league have been campaigning for a 5th place in the champions league for years. Eventually I believe Uefa and these 12 teams will have a chat and come to an agreement. No guaranteed places for any club and a slightly bigger competition of 24 teams.
