Champions League revamp

Bruno Fernandes has retweeted something from Podence against the idea now.

If big players start shafting it they’ve got no chance.

Now that they have been babned from playing for their countries in major tournaments, lets see how they react

Cerefin confirms, players who take part in super league will be banned from Euros and World Cup.

That's a massive announcement. I wonder what that means for existing players of these clubs? They are tied into contracts, but do they have a way they can break their contracts if the clubs do this to them? I would imagine so because the club is putting the player into a competition that is forbidden by the governing body.

Again - I am no legal expert, but the arguement is that they are free to set up another competition and UEFA's punishments (banning clubs / players etc etc) simply wouldnt stand up in a court, because it would restrict competition.

But they are not! Someone posted up one of the rules of the Premier League last night (I think it was rule 19) which stated that, in so many words, they could not join any other organisation while remaining part of the Prem. So a breach of the rule automatically takes them outwith any legal course of action to remain. The driver to being in the Premier league is that they do not contravene the conditions. Once they do that, all bets are off. It's not a question of restricting competition, it's simply a case of 'you joined on these legally binding conditions - you have broken your word on a condition'.

Interesting that they say they want them banned from competitions domestically. I like it

Not really - they have no dog in that hunt, and it inflicts maximum damage to bring them back into the fold.

If they're going to take a fighting stance, and good on them for doing it, then of course that is their position on the matter.

What is thoughts of the Barcelona fans over this?

I can't speak for all but I think most agree this is a poor option

Looks like this was one of the last agreements Bartomeu made ahead of being censured & ousted out of office so I am inclined to think Laporta has to put it up to a member vote. Barto, at the time, was confident members would ratify it since it was intended to ensure the club remained in the hands of the members (Rather than the banks this deal apparently is linked to)

I also believe a lot of litigation awaits before anything is decided for certain

Player-by-player is the answer. Did their agents have the foresight to give them an out clause, or not?

This is what needs to happen to stop this. Fans can play a part, but modern day football is player power.

Players need to pick a side now. Their bank balance or the good of the game.

This super league is marketing itself by saying watch the best players. If the best players refuse to play this thing is dead in the water.

But money talks, more than loyalty I’m afraid.
