Champions League revamp

Loving the German stance on it.
Be honest, without Bayern in it, it’s a total mockery anyway isn’t it?
There’s enough European pedigree left behind as it stands to keep the CL going as it is, or under the new reforms.

Time for UEFA and the domestic leagues to turn the screw on the scabs involved.

It's getting to the point where it's a tad embarrassing our clubs in England haven't come out in this way.

I think in our defence is that RB Leipzig, Borussia and FC Porto have all been heavily linked. I'm assuming that the PL teams must be meeting now, because outside of Hassenhuttl and Purslow, no actual club has condemned it so far.

Player-by-player is the answer. Did their agents have the foresight to give them an out clause, or not?

The only thing I can think of where players have ripped up their contracts like that recently was sporting Lisbon where the players were attacked by fans at the training grounds and several players walked away on free transfers citing "just cause". This is different of course but the players could use similar legal term to get them out of their contracts.

I would imagine not all players will walk away though. For some playing internationally is the height of their career, particularly those with a chance of winning an international title.

TBF I think the PL has to say that if this doesn’t stop by such and such a day (the last day of the season maybe) then that’s it, you’re either totally out or are apologising profusely and accepting all these changes we want like more equitably distributed cash and a CL spot for the FA Cup winners.

Yeah but given they've already broken Premier League rules by signing up to a non-sanctioned competition, there has to be sanctions now too.

I understand a deadline for them to renege on this before total punishment comes into effect, but they can't just pretend this hasn't happened now.

That's why I said relegation earlier. It isn't the total answer, but it's the type of punishment that's needed regardless for what's happened already, nevermind what actually comes next.

If this league actually goes ahead then surely, surely they simply can't compete in their domestic leagues anymore?? and if the likes of Woodward et al. seriously believed that they could do this and still compete in their home leagues uncontested that is astounding naivety.

Woodward and “astounding naivety” again!

If they do go, our government needs to tax them to high heaven. Also is there no way the government can regulate football ownership. Force clubs to have 50/50 fan ownership. Obviously that’s a murky road to go down and would have to happen to every club.
But it least it gives the fans a say to potentially block this ever happening again.

I used to work in the legal field basically my boss saying to the customers yes you can on everything.

His job is to tell the customers the consequences and let them make the decisions.

Players need to pick a side now. Their bank balance or the good of the game.

This super league is marketing itself by saying watch the best players. If the best players refuse to play this thing is dead in the water.

But money talks, more than loyalty I’m afraid.

Different players will have differing degrees of leverage here, depending on their contracts.

It's getting to the point where it's a tad embarrassing our clubs in England haven't come out in this way.

It's not reasonable to ask them to make a public move right now. There's too much at stake. Their businesses literally depend on the response to this - it's the biggest professional decision most of them will ever make.

Most likely, they've all agreed tacitly or explicitly to remain silent until either there's solidarity or they agree to go their own separate ways on the issue.

Even if this super league crap doesn't take off, (i think it will personally) i hope the premier league and it's remaining clubs send the other 6 packing. This is an opportunity to start fresh, a total revamp of the league systems. All clubs to lose league licence, made to start in the conference North/South....

The financial hit to us and the other clubs will be huge and we can possibly say goodbye to Bramley Moore but i think for the good of football it will be worth it. Football is broken.

I hope Everton come out with a strong statement soon. I would hate it despise it if my club wanted to be apart off this.
