Champions League revamp

Loving the German stance on it.
Be honest, without Bayern in it, it’s a total mockery anyway isn’t it?
There’s enough European pedigree left behind as it stands to keep the CL going as it is, or under the new reforms.

Time for UEFA and the domestic leagues to turn the screw on the scabs involved.

Yep, missing Bayern, PSG and Dortmund, along with the likes of Ajax, Benfica etc make it less of a competition. Those 12 and a couple of dregs who they invite out of desperation will not make a decent league.

Yeah but given they've already broken Premier League rules by signing up to a non-sanctioned competition, there has to be sanctions now too.

I understand a deadline for them to renege on this before total punishment comes into effect, but they can't just pretend this hasn't happened now.

That's why I said relegation earlier. It isn't the total answer, but it's the type of punishment that's needed regardless for what's happened already, nevermind what actually comes next.

Perhaps, though if it’s true some clubs aren’t as gung ho as the rest then you might as well try and split them up with a bit of apparent leniency.

I think the SL will fail anyway but taking City and Chelsea out will really mess the rest up.

If they do go, our government needs to tax them to high heaven. Also is there no way the government can regulate football ownership. Force clubs to have 50/50 fan ownership. Obviously that’s a murky road to go down and would have to happen to every club.
But it least it gives the fans a say to potentially block this ever happening again.
It's possible, but it wouldn't be pretty. Let's not forget that we're owned and financed by a billionaire - without him bailing us out every season, we're bankrupt as we currently are. If he was suddenly told he had to hand over nearly half of the club to fans, I doubt he'd stick around very long.

The only thing I can think of where players have ripped up their contracts like that recently was sporting Lisbon where the players were attacked by fans at the training grounds and several players walked away on free transfers citing "just cause". This is different of course but the players could use similar legal term to get them out of their contracts.

I would imagine not all players will walk away though. For some playing internationally is the height of their career, particularly those with a chance of winning an international title.

The law generally makes a distinction between physical safety and professional consequence. No one signs a contract agreeing to be physically beaten - it would have no legal force since the outcome is illegal. By contrast, the courts generally hold that if you didn't leave yourself an out for a situation like this, you made a risk management choice which was priced into the compensation that you agreed to receive.

So these teams dont want their players playing tor their countries, how disgraceful is that.

This is where the players need to push back. The WC is the biggest in the world, players are made there and some of these players, especially Brazilians are obsessed with playing for their country.

How great would it be if City, Real and Chelsea were kicked out of this years CL - something City have been craving.
Praying for that now, would be marvellous.

Out of all the clubs involved, City who went as low as division 2 (now league 1) and managed to scrape past Gillingham in the play offs back, now think they are European royalty. I appreciate it’s the owners who have made this decision, but City could have said no and showed a bit of integrity.
