Champions League revamp

The VAR argument from the rs is just moaning and excuse making because they fell off a cliff. Carragher using that as a justification is a lark.

Is this new league going to have rules that every decision goes their way? Thats the only way the customers will be satisfied.

VAR deffo needs to go though. Can't be having that back in for next season with fans, nobody will be even to celebrate a goal ffs. Bill needs to give Mike Riley a good seeing to and I'm not talking the type of seeing to him and Norris did when they went two's up on Rita.

It's why from a selfish view I was begging them to do it last night, as it was patently stupid. Parish is right when he says this will turn out to be a good day for football. He's spot on. Because by overplaying their hand to this degree they'll enforce greater regulation and change against them.

Exactly my thoughts.

I hope/expect it will force significant, sweeping changes.

What direction of those changes will be telling.

Footballs broke as is, IMO.

I don't think it's something that needs preserving, it needs change. Hopefully this attempt to change to take it totally the wrong way (which IMO is the progression the game has been going for years) - makes people sit up and force it to go the opposite way.

Alternatively, the Premier League and co will bottle it and compromise galore.

Owners of the clubs, including our own - are not custodians of their clubs, they're there to make money in their lifetimes.

I'd love the government to dictate changes that force 51% of clubs to be fan owned.

All of the owners of the six clubs need punishing and significantly. I'm not convinced football can regulate itself, too much money.

It has to be dictated from the state - it's needed for heritage.

They only have the gravy train for as long as they are in the Prem.

If the 6 are gone they actually have a better shot at staying in the Prem every year rather than yo-yo ing like in recent years
Yeah but the gravy train has a lot less bisto on board. The top 6 bring money to the game. Burnley v villa doesn’t have many neutrals watching. Man Utd v villa does

Seemed a bit of both to me. He clearly wants them to remain in the league for the money they bring in, but also said it wasn't impossible for the 6 and 14 to go separate ways.
Yep, thats how I saw it.

He appeared tough, but I honestly don't think he took a tough stance.

Anyway, I'm not having a pop at the fella as such, he came across very well and I do understand why he didn't call them all bellends.

It was going to be a PR disaster no matter what.

"We generate most of the growth in the revenue, but you guys insist on dividing it equally. We don't think that's fair, so we're packing up our toys and moving on."

There's no selling that, so they decided to take the free publicity of controversy.
Yeah was never going to go great but could at least have tried to put forward a case - instead they have just done the initial pr drop and everything since , apart from some twitter bots, has been from those that oppose it.

My only concern is whenever we try "change" football its always for the worse - FFP, VAR etc.

For me leave it as it is - the greatest sport in the world for a reason! The only change they should have made was no FFP and luxury tax on if clubs spend over a certain amount per window which gets reinvested into grass roots level.

Has anyone said what happens if one of the clubs that qualify for the super league on merit actually go on and win it? If 15 clubs can't be relegated and 5 teams qualify then does that mean the champions go down?

Of course it won't happen due to the officials that get hand picked...I mean selected to referee the games but still.

It won't be done and dusted tomorrow but the league need to not pussyfoot around and basically give them that ultimatum - if they dont jack in the plans within 7 days they'll be suspended from being part of the 2021/22 season.

If they dont we will Neville Chamberlain all the way to them getting what they want via concessions whether they leave or stay.
I would like that to happen, but it won’t. This won’t end either all one way or the other and it won’t end tomorrow. There will be negotiations and concessions. They do need to go in hard at the start I agree.

The overall impression from Parish about the situation I got was this.

He even said it's a 'special talent' to manage to unite literally everyone against something.
