Champions League revamp

The problem is the 14 are not homogenous in their aims. Burnley, Brighton, Crystal Palace and the like need the renegade six to keep the PL TV value inflated. None are serious about ever competing in top level European competition. Everton, Aston Villa, Leicester, and West Ham would have very different ambitions. Leeds and Wolves would prize consolidation and then progress. They will not present a united front.

I expect a compromise to eventually emerge. Bayern Munich will be the bridge to this as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge straddles UEFA, the ECA, and the renegades. Bayern would have to be in a super league for obvious reasons, but cannot be due to the power German fans wield over their clubs. He is, by default, the one who sees both sides of the story. I can't see the renegades being ejected in the end. Points could well be docked, but turkeys will not vote for Christmas.

Spot on - sadly the chairmen of clubs like ourselves and Leicester will be drowned out by the likes of Ashley, Parish etc. Who are more than happy finishing 13th every season and raking in the PL TV money.

Thats what we are up against. The more you hear about it the more you feel at worst they'll get points deduction and a transfer embargo.

I hope the football authorities see and seize the opportunity to reset the game, Expel the cabal, replace with trams from the next level down (rinse and repeat all down the pyramid) and all of a sudden, the playing field is more level, all the top flight teams will be closer to each other, games will be unpredictable again, old rivalries can be re established. There may be a short term dip in revenue but I feel only this will preserve football as a sport. The traitorous six can come back but must start in the depths of the leagues.
This!

Ain't it mad how loads of people can't think long term?

If these six were binned off, it really wouldn't take that long before you'd have a 'new big six' in its' place unless football overall gets a salary cap/college draft-esque system.

Playing Man Utd/Liverpool/City only has the gravitas it does because they've won things. If Leicester won the title for the next five years on the spin, they have the same status.

Who the hell gave a toss about playing Chelsea or City until 10-15 years ago? Nobody!
If this had come in 2015/6 Leicester would be in it.

1994/95 Blackburn.

'Future fans' are fickle.

I think the fact that those clubs have a better chance of staying in the PL without the scab six might mitigate against the financial angle. Newcastle was dangerously close to relegation again this year, they wouldn't be in a scab-free PL. They might even have a chance to one day win a title befitting their status as a huge club. (Can't believe I wrote that last sentence with a straight face.)

this is what its all about

how much would a broadcaster pay for a league without city, the RS, Utd etc not participating?
It's a good point and I agree. But at the same time PL is going to be devalued come what may, with or without them. The other teams are going to take a hit in the sense that broadcasters will want to show the World Series of Football or whatever and won't pay the same money, especially as the 6 won't really bother. The rest might as well go try and sink the idea now

That dude looks harder than Big Dunc, which is saying something.

Less. The scary number is the 60% or so contributed by foreign broadcasters to the Prem's TV money.

How much less is probably not knowable outside the networks, who have a pretty good idea of who is watching and how they distribute over clubs' fanbases. They know what they'll bid.

Btw there is no way JP Morgan would be financing this without there already being a mega broadcasting deal in place. My guess is amazon but possibly facebook as well.

Somebody with no public goodwill to spend but lots of penetration, in other words. Makes sense.

Let's be honest, players playing in this league will be getting big big pay rises...some will double their wages......

Let's see how many choose their international careers, and love of football, over this...the summer transfer window will tell you alot...

They have enough money. They aren't thick, and namely, the agents who manage them aren't either.

There's a big difference between having more money because you get a new deal or something, and ultimately being complicit in taking a team away from the very essence of its being - to compete in a fair environment.
