Champions League revamp

The first line of this is probably the most important bit. If they are facing immediate expulsion then the leverage is gone. There is no cake and eat it. There is only either a slice of the PL or a slice of ESL - but not both. That doesn't mean that a club won't ever leave, but it's crystal clear now what happens and the ramifications for these clubs.

The bit about sanctions doesn't surprise me. There are too many clubs in this league with little ambition other than avoiding relegation. They won't want to punish these clubs. I'd like to think we are not one of these clubs, although I don't think we are because Moshiri pushed for punishments straight away on talksport.
I get what you are saying but these 'survival' clubs should consider that if the Sly Six are brought to justice, brought down a peg or twenty for the next 3 seasons, the playing field will be more level giving them a better chance of survival or more, maybe achieving success themselves

I wonder if FSG will be covering it for Liverpool
I suspect if the Glazer's were asked this , Utd supporters wouldn't like the answer .
I know I used to moan about Saint Bill but in hindsight I was a bit of an idiot .
Someone pulled up a BBC article the other day about Everton and an American consortium and I remember how annoyed I was that it was rejected .
Now I look back and look at the Glazer's and shudder . I think even the barcodes have to admit that it could be worse .

FC Barcelona shares the view of most major European football clubs, and even more so given the current socio-economic climate, that there is a need for structural reforms to guarantee the financial sustainability and feasibility of world football by improving the product that is offered to fans around the world and by consolidating and even increasing the fan base on which this sport is sustained, which is its mainstay and greatest strength.

In this context, the FC Barcelona Board of Directors accepted, as a matter of immediate urgency, the offer to form part, as the founding member, of the Super League, a competition designed to improve the quality and attractiveness of the product offered to the football fans and, at the same time, and as one of FC Barcelona's most inalienable principles, seek new formulas for solidarity with the football family as a whole.

The decision was made in the conviction that it would have been a historical error to turn down the opportunity to be part of this project as one of its founding members. As one of the world's top sports club, our intention shall always be to be at the forefront, this being an indispensable part of the club's identity and its sporting, social and institutional spirit.

In whatever case, FC Barcelona, as a club that always has been and always shall be owned by each and every one of its members, expressly reserved the right to submit such an important decision to the final approval of its competent social bodies following careful and very necessary study of the proposal.

2.- Given the public reaction that the aforementioned project has generated in many and various spheres, there is no question that FC Barcelona appreciates that a much more in-depth analysis is required into the reasons that have caused this reaction in order to reconsider, if necessary, and to the required extent, the proposal as originally formulated and resolve all those issues, always for the good of the general interest of the football world. Such in-depth analysis needs time and the necessary composure to avoid taking any rash action.

We feel it is equally important to highlight the objective fact that a Court of Justice has already granted urgent legal protection as requested, thus confirming right of the initiative on the part of the founding clubs of the Super League project. In this regard, FC Barcelona considers that it would be improper for the necessary process of reflection and debate to be established under criteria of unjustified pressure and intimidation.

Despite being perfectly aware of the importance and interest raised by this matter, as well as the need to always act with the utmost transparency, FC Barcelona shall act at all times with due prudence and asks for the utmost understanding, respect and most of all patience among FC Barcelona supporters and public opinion in general.

Come on @Drico Bayern have a monopoly on German football.

Leicester are superbly run yet they dont dominate our league because we have competition and money via ownership investment.

Sadly in recent years RS have been ran superbly yet have had 2x brilliant seasons and are now 7th.

Since Bayern last didnt win a title we've had 4-5 different title winners.
England has "competition" and money via oligarch investment and big oil investment. Let's get it right, @ForeverBlue92

And let's look at this competition you speak of. You are focusing on the very top of the league. Yes, there is "competition" there - but it is competition between oligarchs and oil barons. It is precisely THIS "competition" that denies Leicester. Yet, you appear to think this a good thing in some way.

The competition you speak of ensures that the oligarch and oil clubs can never be relegated. Yet, in Germany, Schalke 04 were relegated this week - despite having oil investors in Gazprom (who cannot fully take over). They were in the Champions League playing Man City two seasons ago! That is mobility in action and it can only happen because there is huge organic competition in Germany below the Bayern juggernaut. Clubs like Freiburg, Union Berlin, and Mainz have been able to thrive. Hamburger SV were relegated for the first time in Bundesliga history two years ago. Kaiserslautern are now in the third divsion despite winning the league twice in the last 30 years.

Another measure of "competition" is how many clubs have qualified for the Champions League. In England, 10 clubs have made it. In Germany, that number is 12, despite not having as many qualification spots over the years.

I completely agree that it is unhealthy that Bayern are so dominant. But competition isn't simply measured by who can win the league. And if a club IS going to dominate, it's surely far more palatable that they do because of their own efforts rather than by importing oil money.

And that's the crap we are going to get now.
But without doing that its no punishment at all. Multi million pound fines are just money.
If the players and fans are punished then the wrath of both will rain down on them like
they have never seen before. It will stop them of ever thinking about it ever again.
Otherwise the SL will just raise it's head again in 2 years time under a different guise.
A 1 year ban from the CL and a 12 point deduction in PL next season would not be
unreasonable. A message has to be sent and delivered.
Would the majority of City fans be happy to accept such punishment to preserve the long term future as a local club
