Champions League revamp

Barca statement translated.
"We've lived beyond our means for years. Been bailed out more times than you've had hot paellas. Been given more, along with real madrid, than any of our spanish counterparts × 10.
The pandemic has found us out and rather than deal with our problems we're going to screw everybody else"

Rats.

They could have asked UEFA for real salary caps and transfer caps.
But as long as they were drinking from that pond with Messi and Griezmann everything was fine.

They can't afford to keep their big players anymore? Poor them. It's so sad I could cry.

Lads I need an opinion on whether you think this is the right thing to do or not. I recently read about an old man, impoverished and struggling to pay the bills, it seems the world is against him and social media is sending a bombardment of vile and horrible abuse his way. Usually I ignore such things as you can't help everyone but then I saw this article which contained a line which could well be the most heartbreaking thing I have ever read:

'It's impossible to make signings like Mbappe and Haaland, in general, not just for Real Madrid, without the Super League.'

So I'm thinking of setting up a just giving page to see if we can raise enough to make his life a little more tolerable by getting one or both.

OR we could just tell him don't buy them then?

I'm in a quandary what to do...
Pound of shoite in the post right now ;)

Absolutely, and of course in any vibrant league that will always happen with monetary imbalance - some clubs without money will come up with other ways than just money to survive, and for some clubs that will work well enough to allow them to think about doing things on the pitch too, like going for a CL place.

Hence this SL was aimed at taking away the motivation for small clubs to do those things; to make there be no pot of gold or glorious trophy to justify working towards.

That it would also have cut off a lot of the supply of players to the big clubs probably didn’t concern them a bit.
Spot on, mate.

And not news to anyone on here but given that the league started with:

Accrington
Aston Villa
Blackburn Rovers
Bolton Wanderers
Burnley
Derby County
Everton
Notts County
Preston North End
Stoke
West Bromwich Albion
Wolverhampton Wanderers

All of the Syphilis Six were afforded the opportunity that they would like to take away from others.

Are board in stating the "preposterous arrogance" of these idiots declaring themselves as the elite was just perfect for me.

Maybe they should start an onlyfans page and get koeman to flash his hairy man boobs.
That statement was nauseating. Going on about football family etc.
Your mess. Own it.

Why would Real Madrid get this money though?

Would it not go to the Super League in the event it is paid?

Sure he can fob it off on some sort of agreement but how would Juve and Barca feel about him taking the money to Madrid.

I highly doubt they would sign something like that.

fair point- maybe compensation for those who didn’t withdraw

The first line of this is probably the most important bit. If they are facing immediate expulsion then the leverage is gone. There is no cake and eat it. There is only either a slice of the PL or a slice of ESL - but not both. That doesn't mean that a club won't ever leave, but it's crystal clear now what happens and the ramifications for these clubs.

The bit about sanctions doesn't surprise me. There are too many clubs in this league with little ambition other than avoiding relegation. They won't want to punish these clubs. I'd like to think we are not one of these clubs, although I don't think we are because Moshiri pushed for punishments straight away on talksport.

Yes and they can hardly ut any defence up against not tightening it up now either.

All while getting 85% of tv money between two clubs

Exactly. And JP Morgan haven't lost money, or much anyway. Nothing was set up.

You read the 170 paged document they signed?

No, it's just common sense that withdrawing from something 48 hours after agreeing means very little cost was incurred.

There'll be at best a minor fee for cancellation of the JP Morgan money, but even that would be hard to enforce as clearly nothing happened yet.

Wait, so Real, Barca and Juve are still in, they didn't rejoin UEFA like English six and Inter, Atleti and Milan? What about Champions League semi between Real and Chelsea?
