seems I have to find a new Spanish club.. was a Real Madrid fan tbh in both Spain and the CL ... they and Barca can both (self imposed censorship) off.
Recommend SD Eibar unfortunately it's not all glory but hey ho. Started keeping a special eye out for them after an amazon documentary a few years back which caught my imagination...

I'm reading comments on Spanish Marca (their most popular sport site) and two most upvoted comments are

"It is funny that, apart from Juventus, the only team with decency in this matter and that has not let Florentino down was Barcelona. Honor"

"Who would have thought that Madrid and Barça would unify against the UEFA mafia, and against the opinion of the rest of Europe! Ole!"

They seem very pro-super league

They're in deepest debt so have most to gain. Strange that...

Check out the bloody prototype yank on that link:

“As a North American football fan and therefore removed from the understandable emotions linked to the ESL,” writes Michael Walsh, “I just wanted to share a point that I think is being missed. I do not support the ESL and I believe that participation in any European competition needs to be based on qualification in a domestic league. However, the ESL concept does (did?) address an issue I have which is that there are not enough meaningful games between the biggest clubs in Europe.
What a load of nonsense. Does he realize how tired people are of seeing the Yankees play the Red Sox on TV 20 times a year? Or seeing every Dallas Cowboys game hyped up to the heavens even though they are crap? Tired of people like him giving the rest of us American fans a bad name. We’re a whole lot smarter than that.

Yeh I think American sports are to blame for this mindset. I follow NBA teams on Twitter and they play games so often and against the same teams constantly when they lose no one even seems to care as they play again 2 days later.

I'm just as bothered about the steaming pile that we've already got, ie the Champions League in its current format, as I am about any reforms or a Super League.

We need to kick up as big a fuss about this. Its utter junk

It seems the players agree. At least some of them anyway. This new format will allow teams with a good coefficient to have absolutely abysmal league seasons and still potential qualify for the CL, meaning they undeservedly reap the financial rewards. It’s all a big joke really.

Even when two “biggest clubs in Europe” play each other in the CL group stage they’re not much more than exhibitions. They’re both going to qualify in the end. The only matches that matter are knockout ties, the same as how 95% of all the greatest games in American sports have happened in the playoffs.

12 point reduction for all involved backed up with a massive fine.

Anything less is totally unacceptable.

Not arsed what UEFA decides to do with them.

Not a fan of point deductions personally.

I’d go for a European ban next season - let some lower down teams take their place and benefit from some of the money they don’t appreciate. This one is most important because they wanted to leave the CL.

Regarding their domestic leagues - 12 month transfer ban (purchases, not sales). Gives them a chance to balance the books a bit if they’re struggling financially.
