Champions League revamp

yeah all though the JP Morgan thing was just a mechanic - they would loan them (front up) the TV money, so other than legal and PR, which is said to be about 8m per team it’s hard to see what other costs have been incurred

I mean we will have no idea.

I said from the outset some club(s) may well be liable for any fees. Obviously the 8m, potentially split 12 ways is 100m. It looks to me like Real Madrid are very much in contention for the role as guarantor.

Some speculation here, but my experienceof banks (and for full disclosure I've not had dealings with JPM) but they rarely stump up much on loan without certain guarantees incuding a fairly hefty deposit and secondly will get very annoyed when people backtrack, having probably wasted a lot of time at the front end on it. Often clubs will make guarentees on return on investment. If they don't happen, but you've met the criteria you are ok, but I'd suggest walking out 2 days into the announcement is probably quite likely to be in breach of the spirit, if not the letter of the agreement.

There will be others too in this boat. Maybe sponsors had front loaded some funds to them that they will not want back, it could be broadcasters (say DAZN) had made certain guarentees on guarantees of cash to be made. Again if the milestones are not hit fine, but walking away having signed is going to leave you very open.

Quite who is culpable, and who gets what from who will be open to discussion, but I'd imagine it could get quite messy. My gut instinct is, Real Madrid will be the guarantor, there was probably a 2 week cool off period if x,y or z wasn't met from the other club, and there will now be quite a difficult argument about whether the conditions were met, and whether Madrid can pass on those costs to those clubs.

In honesty, not just from an Everton perspective but more from just a human decency perspective, I genuinely hope they all drag each other down the litigation route and it's as messy as possible. It seems a fitting end from a group of people who thought they'd found the solution to football.

Not a fan of point deductions personally.

I’d go for a European ban next season - let some lower down teams take their place and benefit from some of the money they don’t appreciate. This one is most important because they wanted to leave the CL.

Regarding their domestic leagues - 12 month transfer ban (purchases, not sales). Gives them a chance to balance the books a bit if they’re struggling financially.
I think a points deduction is fair

If an owner runs a team into the ground, and takes them into administration, they get docked points.

These 6 teams were putting the whole English, and European, football pyramid at risk of collapsing, crippling teams or putting their aspirations in tatters.

In fact, it is not enough

No, it's just common sense that withdrawing from something 48 hours after agreeing means very little cost was incurred.

There'll be at best a minor fee for cancellation of the JP Morgan money, but even that would be hard to enforce as clearly nothing happened yet.

I've covered some of this above. I'd imagine there will be a standard 8m ish fee to withdraw in tat 1st two weeks.

The issue may be what factors may allow people to legitimately withdraw within the 2 week period. Having written contracts, you normally try to tie that down quite closely.

If they have breached the agreement, and maybe left without citing a reason consistent with those terms, RM could theoretically have them bang to rights. In terms of damages, if RM could show it could them hundreds of millions (which they could) they would probably have a strong and winnable case. Indeed JPM, and any other group who had invested money would also have a strong case.

I doubt we are in that situation, but there is certainly a possibility. If we are, I wouldn't expect to hear too much in the press about it, people would be preparing the legal docs. It would be very very funny if that was the situation too.

We also don't know when any agreements were signed. If this has been being planned for 2-3 years, they could be well past any 2 week withdrawal period.

I’d say points reduction at a minimum.

Like the idea of a transfer ban though, add that onto the points reduction and were good

Spot on, mate.

And not news to anyone on here but given that the league started with:

Accrington
Aston Villa
Blackburn Rovers
Bolton Wanderers
Burnley
Derby County
Everton
Notts County
Preston North End
Stoke
West Bromwich Albion
Wolverhampton Wanderers

All of the Syphilis Six were afforded the opportunity that they would like to take away from others.

Are board in stating the "preposterous arrogance" of these idiots declaring themselves as the elite was just perfect for me.
Apologies
