that was a good performance, but still, nothing to show for it other than confidence and Barry being suspended which means we get the Besic-McCarthy partnership. Howard played well, but why the [Poor language removed] did he stop diving

Could have stole that if Emile had taken his chance, but can't really complain after ceding almost the entire pitch to Chelsea and inviting wave after wave of attack.

Howard weak at his near post again. There was a deflection, yeah, but it wasn't a particularly venomous shot, and he should have stuck his foot out rather than collapse to his knees.

Stones, Oviedo and McCarthy were bright spots, and I think Lennon will come good given time. Countering would be easier with two wingers making the destination of out balls less obvious.

  • Should we give Kone a go, Lukaku has not impressed.Maybe dropping him might kick him up the arse, if it's not offside, or play Lukaku and Kone

Incredibly unlucky.

Howard did alright but IMO Robles would have kept a clean sheet today.

Barkley and Naismith were both very poor.

Lennon put in a shift but looked very rusty, he'll come good.

Lukaku had a good game, he was unlucky not to score and his general play/work rate was brilliant.

Barry is too slow, made a lot of mistakes and was off the pace all game.

McCarthy is unbelievably good.

The back 4 were fantastic throughout.

All in all we can look back at the past 5 games and be happy, but from here on we need to get the wins on the board starting with smacking them up next Thursday 4-0.

Do you not see the problem with that post? We've gone from comparing our results with utd, spurs and arsenal to using hull, villa and burnley as our benchmark.

The fact is that 2 wins in 16 games is simply not good enough.
Normally I would agree. But apart from the Xmas/New Year period, we have been very good apart from a rickety defence at the beginning. I also appreciate that we are a little defensive at the moment but that is clever tactics imo (to get confidence back). Attacking-wise, I think we are good as any team in the league and it was only brilliant keeping from Czech that denied us a deserved victory over the so-called best team in England. I think nobody in the Chelsea dressing room after our match thinks that anymore.

We have 13 games to go. I see us winning 11 of those and drawing 2. So, we will end on 62 points. And for the true 'transition year', that's pretty darn good.

Next year I would expect us to be challenging for the very top (and if we can keep the nucleus of this years squad, I think that is not an outlandish call)

In fairness. It's just a point. I don't think it's going to matter too much in this season. The performance was more important.

Thats what we've said after thee Arsenal, Leicester, WBA, Hull, and Swansea game. Put that together and you got 6 draws- 9 in total. Forget the MCY and RS draw, you got 7 points. 7 more points right now puts us in what place? Im too lazy to check- but it puts us not 5 but 12 points of the relegation zone!!!!!

Lennon, Coleman, Barkley were amazing- maybe if we played Lennon, Barkley, and Mirallas instead of Naismith, we may have had better offensive threats. Despite the loss, i feel proud- we were in it to the end, and i think we're getting our form back. TBH, i wouldnt give half a [Poor language removed] if Martinez got us to 40 points, then focused completely on Europa League- because this season is over for me. But great battle by the boys of Merseyside, and whats the deal with two late goals at Stamford Bridge two years in a row????
This is a spoof surely.

Can we please never start Ross and Naismith. Reckon we'll see Ross come good when Naismith is benched. Need to play with two wingers as well
I reckon we won't see Ross come good until next season. On the ball today he was decent. Not great but he did slide in Lukaku nicely and unlike Lennon and Naismith the attacks didn't break down at him. However last year when the ball came to him when he had space to run into he just drove into it. Even when he looks to do that he just doesn't look the same but hopefully it's just mental and will pass with time however I do think it will take a summer break. This kind of thing has happened to plenty of young players.

Bud screw the league after 40 points. But yeah if we can find our form in the first few games and onwards till the end- top 4 is certain- the league, a really flukey season maybe puts us 2nd behind on goal difference because CHE never concede goals.
