I only really helped the missus fight the Zombies in the first one. It does look like a place abandoned for 20 years. There's absolutely been a lot of detail imparted into the locations, finding codes to open safes etc, but theres only about 5 things you can ever pick up.

Main gripe is that you could do all of this in an open world - the Seattle part is kind of open but you still have to follow these boring linear paths and crafting is really restricted to bare bones.

Not everything has to be an open world game, mate.

The story isn’t half as bad as people are making out. It’s an unbelievable game and you shouldn’t miss out on it because of a few sketchy reviews.

I probably didn't phrase my thoughts too well, I loved the first game but I don't think my mental health can stand such a dark setting/story in such a time. Not begrudging anyone else liking it at all. From what I understand it's incredibly violent and miserable and I don't really have a desire to stew in that for 20+ hours. Endless cycles of violence and revenge not really themes I need whacking over my head atm.

I'm seriously considering getting Dayz for the PS4. Has anyone played it lately? I know the developers gets a lot of flack for the lack of bug fixes amongst other things. But I've played The Forest, which is decent, and a lot of The Long Dark, which is great, but the PvP aspect of Dayz really intrigues me and has done for years before it came to PS4. I pondered getting a gaming PC just for it at one stage.

Some of the reviews are shocking whereas some are very good. It seems to completely split opinion. Might pick it up second hand in case it's dire.

Try Rust instead. Not sure where its at these days, but it used to be a surreal experience! Plus it is done by the guy who did G-Mod and that team.

Imagine how good this game would be if it was though. Can ruin the immersion in a game when there's blocked off sections everywhere.

Rust has been confirmed as coming to PS4 this year, there’s just no date yet.

I’ve read that if you swap the HDD inside the PS4 Pro for an SSD it greatly improves the performance rod DayZ, as it relies on constantly steaming data from the hard drive to the memory. Expensive for just one game though.
