Disagree but i think all single player games are disposable once you clock them, being able to walk around a pretty open world and pick flowers or whatever pointless game padding nonsense they put in gets old after about 5 minutes.
They felt fresh about 10 or more years ago but now they are all just the same with the same old formulas, game loops and the same old crappy side quest structures which take away focus from the proper narrative.
Should also mention that I think video games in general are just an objectively bad medium for story telling relative to books, film and television... and that open world games magnify this even more.
Played a few hours of The Last Of Us 2 now and I’m massively disappointed with it. The first one was my favourite game, but really not enjoying this one so far.
As I said, only a few hours in, but really not a fan of the story or gameplay so far. Who the **** is Abby, get her off my screen.
Does it get any better?
I literally bought a cheap PS4 to play through both games before selling again, but not sure I’ll bother continue with Part II...

I’ll try!! Been the biggest disappointment so far, so pretty gutted as waited years for this. To annoy me further, the game crashed yesterday and I lost about an hours worth of save which has made me want to jack it in
Bit of a stinker. They really took the story and piecemealed it make no sense.
Characters only appear to serve the main characters purpose, and are disposed of once the plot needs moving on.
is disposed of really early with a 1 Wood
and leads to highly questionable motivations of each character thereafter.
Is a trans / muscley bro who in the end I did not want to slash at with a knife after she's literally been tortured and raped for a month after saving a couple of kids and turning on her militaristic gang
and why doesn't she have a knife?
Is some kind of Super Soldier who kills maybe a hundred people in a ridiculous vendetta creating carnage, widows and fathers of children, dogs and even murdering a pregnant woman
You live in a Zombie infested World, where you could be bitten at any minute, and what do you decide to put on? A singlet. WTF. You decide constantly to push through barricaded and blocked doors as loudly as possible, and then quickly barr the door so your trapped in to what is an area you have no idea whats on the other side!
There are some good levels, particularly the
creature composed of several different Zombies
but again its misused by
Only splitting into one zombie when it should split into like 5 different Zombies
and be much harder to take down.
In the end, it leaves
Broken, trumatised people with no clear development other than to put them through near constant misses and no closer to finishing what they were so eager to start.
A much better game would have been to create an entire City to clean out and colonise, organising the survivors and leading the rebuilding, while negotiating with another settlement who have Issac as their militaristic leader and Abby as the love interest of Elly.

I used to think it was all about open world games but find that formula is pretty stale nowadays, linear games allow for much stronger and focussed narrative in my experience. Open world just ends up being a bit of a jumbled mess, drive here, do mission, drive somewhere else, do mission... rockstars approach is especially poor, so much repetition.
Think for me personally it's more about experience than story. Some of my favourite games over the past 10 years have been open world where you just experience things rather than follow a restricted path.
The best games for me are the ones you can have an entire conversation with someone about and have unique experiences that only happen to you. For example far cry 3 I have loads of funny or fun stories that happen within the same confines of others.
I enjoy having that choice at any point. I don't have to do what I'm being told to do but explore, level up , fine secrets etc.
That's why Skyrim remains one of the most popular games for 10 years. You can literally role play within the same digital confines as someone who plays direct.
