Computer games.

One thing people bashing TLOU for the story on YouTube people like Angry Joe and the like they are mad hardcore into superhero movies. Trying to dissect the game when they’ve given Antman a good review ffs.

tlou may have some questionable plot points and what have you but even as a video game it’s story and how it tell it pises all over anything a superhero movie serves up.

Come on bra. I’m with you on Death Stranding - that was an amazing game worthy of any blockbuster, and everyone loved tlou 1 - but this one has so many flaws. The best part was honestly the feeling like you were playing the same story from different directions with different characters, but even that didn’t pay off. If this was a movie people would walk out by the end.

Yeah, Death Stranding was one of those games where I had a problem with the gameplay rather than the story really. It was "weird for the sake of weird" narratively but that's what you get from Kojima game, so you go in with that expectation. I didn't like the narrative but I could see why some would - I just couldn't and still don't understand how anyone could enjoy the gameplay.

TLOU2 is different in that there's very little that can be defended in terms of the narrative. It's just blatantly bad - not different like Death Stranding (hell it follows every revenge trope in the book) but just outright bad.

Objective and subjective are two different things.

Subjectively, I like Blue Streak as a movie, for example. It just makes me laugh and I enjoy it for the ride it gives.

Objectively, it is an absolutely terrible movie, with horrific acting, a nonsensical script and incredibly bad editing.

Sometimes, people are blinded by something visually dazzling on release, but then retrospectively realise they were probably mistaken - James Camerons' Avatar is a perfect example of that. TLOU2 graphically is stunning, the moment to moment gameplay in tense moments is on occasion second to none, and it's possible that people have been overly swayed by those moments into thinking more favourably of the whole as a result, more ready to gloss over the bad.

I'm delighted you subjectively enjoyed TLOU2, wouldn't wish anyone to not enjoy a game they've bought, but objectively there's certain things that are either right or wrong in terms of storytelling technique. You'll struggle to find any serious deconstruction on how TLOU2 succeeds in its narrative, for example, whilst you'll find loads that detail precisely why it fails, because we have countless examples in other media where the themes it aims for are done well.

I don’t think I’ve seen you like any newly released game on here.

Dono Mcbain I’m playing it and taking my sweet time. It takes me years to get through a game specially if it has a hard mode. For me the gameplay, atmosphere, attention to detail on every single streets and room. With no copy and paste. All the good stuff from 1 is there but much better. I’m loving getting my ass handed to me with barely any resources and figuring things out.

Now for the story sure if I think about it to hard some beats would jar me. But honestly? Some parts got me emotional. Of course it’s probably because of the first game. And I’m not a dumb ass when comes to movie going. I love the stuff like Cohen brothers’ there will be blood’, ‘No country for old men’ I appreciate a serious well made film. I’ve no tolerance for 95% of dirt in cinema especially these days.

But yeah the story does not hold up especially to the first game. But it’s still well voice acted, cinematography, and some good dialogue inparts. For a video game? It’s ok. Not good for a tlou game. But the game as a whole is good.....so far.

(promise I won’t bombarded you again) I’m trying not to for this game.

Looking at ghost it was always going to get a ridiculously high user score post TLOU.

Every second comment. Either flat out mentions tlou2 or says “thanks for no SJW stuff 10/10, can’t wait to play the game when my ma buys it for me next week”

Very good films mentioned there. One thing I’ve never really thought about is the story of a game, and the design around it’s direction.

I always believed that the story was hatched through a group dynamic, based on the limitations of the game design and its progression filled in with dialogue. Is it only recently the discussion direction and cinematic quality have been driven by individual ‘game designers’ ? Or has it always been this way? I guess with the tech and money they make nowadays its only natural progression.

Unless you see universally reprehensible behavior, you have to live and let live mate. Politics is a disease that can get to all us, know the triggers/symptoms, walk away, enjoy mental peace.

...I watched TheRadBrad (legend) playing Ghost, it looks bloody awesome! £55 a little bit of a risk for me though as I've never enjoyed melee style games.
