Computer games.

That’s good to know. I’m grateful for all the advice here, I know next to nothing but I’m enjoying learning a bit here and there, and slowly understanding it. This is exactly the info I need as I don’t want to give myself compatibility issues later down the line. I’d like to think I could get a good PC and spend £300 ish every 3 years upgrading a part. Maybe it’s more than that but that’s the idea. Most people seem to rate AMD over Intel chips but besides raw speed (which shows many Intel chips as on par) it’s difficult for me to understand why without someone simplifying it. Plus I’d rather spend an extra £100 now if it’ll save me £200-300 later on.

I thought this, but I used to be a bit of a tech nerd when I was younger and I can feel it coming back a bit. I’d consider building my own PC if the part prices made it viable. With the prices at the moment though it makes no sense.
I'll be honest, if you are only using it for what you say, you won't need to upgrade in 2-3 years, just when one of the parts go. You really don't need the latest GPU or CPU the graphical setting you get on a pc range hugely you can turn them right down or right up. You'll be fine with the suggestion from Dylan and it will last you years.

I’ve since seen this one which I think is a bit better value. It’s got 16gb 3000mhz memory and 1tb M.2, which is enough to get me started. Is the 3070 that much better than the 3060ti? I’m trying to keep around the £1200 mark as I need all the peripherals too. This one I linked a few posts up has caught my eye:

Is that a pre-build mate? I seen a post on PC Specialist the other day about how they're not expecting any new stock of 3060Ti until June at the earliest. Apparently NVidia are prioritising the other cards now moving forwards so stock of the Ti will be at even more of a premium.

3070 isn't miles better than the Ti, however, it's a card that's built for 1440p gaming which you can also use to dip your toe into 4k. It's the best you can get without paying for an extortionate 3080 but not a necessity. The Ti will also do a perfectly great job at 1440p - if you were planning on playing max spec games i'd also consider a PC with a cooler to not fry the entire CPU.

Ive been playing games since the 80’s and Red Dead 2 is easily the most beautifully realised graphics Ive ever seen. Playing through again its actually an incredible achievement.

It really is. Sometimes I'll just load up and ride around on my horse.

Seeing eagles swoop down and pluck fish out of that lake by strawberry, the detail is incredible.

Currently on my second SLOW play through, I really want to complete the compendium of animals/plants etc.

My only gripe if you can't do all challenges as Arthur. It's daft that you can ride to Blackwater (for one of the horseman challenges) evading the bounty hunters, but you can't go further South for the last 3 ledgendary animals/fish/dinosaur bones. Theoretically he doesn't have wanted status outside of Blackwater?

Still.......amazing.

It is mate yes. June isn’t ideal but my PS4 will do me until then no problem. I’m happy to wait a month or two for the right deal. I’ll take a closer look and see if I can swap out the 3060ti for the 3070 as I’d like to play in 4K eventually. From what I gather I think the former will be fine for me for 2-3 years.

The couch. The family hub, the act of gaming that can being a shared, rather than being a solitary, hunched over experience? Hey as I said each to their own, I dont understand the quality argument either. Ive been playing games since the 80’s and Red Dead 2 is easily the most beautifully realised graphics Ive ever seen. My only real gripe with RDR2 is that it’s too easy. There’s so many mechanisms such as the crafting which you don’t need to use. I wish they’d implement a hardcore survival mode, but then I’m a bit of a sadist and love that genre. I just feel like they missed an opportunity to make a tougher difficultly level which would have forced you to use some of the lesser used features. Maybe a PC modder will sort this out one day.

I am tempted to try a second play through and turn off auto aim etc.

Have you checked out overclockers? they do great PCs, I hope that screen shot isn't OC as i'd look daft haha

Funny you should say that. I recently injured my neck badly and my physio has told me to stop slouching on the couch and use a dining or office chair we keep my neck straight. I can’t do that on a sofa. Screen position matters too, most people look up at their TVs because they mount them too high, with a PC you can set your position and screen height easily without buying new furniture. I think it’ll be good for my posture.

Generally I’ve always agreed with your line of thinking; gaming should be a pick up and play experience that is straight out the box. But the lines between console and PC are slowly blurring. You buy a PS5 for £450 and they give you a 825gb SSD, so you’ll need to upgrade that very quickly, and the compatible storage isn’t even out yet, and expected to be very expensive. Then there’s the constant huge updates and the staggered pricing of consoles (digital, disc and pro in the future).

The modding world in PC has taken gaming to a different level. I finally have a good opportunity to jump on board. I’m too intrigued not to.
As someone with a PS5, it's really not necessary to have more storage, unless you have a LOT of games in regular rotation. I've got 7 or 8 installed currently (one of which is Warzone, which is a ridiculous storage hog)....

As games make better use of the compression software available on PS5, the install size of games is expected to fall, too.

The PS5 is incredible value considering the hardware you get for the money, so I won’t knock it. I was more trying to illustrate that console gaming isn’t as different to PC gaming as it once was. It’s not quite as straight forward as it used to be.

Yeah, it depends what you want really. As it stands right now, you can't get a PC anywhere close to the capabilities of the PS5 (or Xbox Series X) for the money they cost. I don't know how much you'd have to spend, but I'd imagine double or more?

Obviously across the lifespan of the console that gap will narrow.

Personally I couldn't be hooped with PC gaming (outside of FM) because it would involve using windows, which I just can't stand lol
