Computer games.

Yeah, it depends what you want really. As it stands right now, you can't get a PC anywhere close to the capabilities of the PS5 (or Xbox Series X) for the money they cost. I don't know how much you'd have to spend, but I'd imagine double or more?

Obviously across the lifespan of the console that gap will narrow.

Personally I couldn't be hooped with PC gaming (outside of FM) because it would involve using windows, which I just can't stand lol
Use a mac or linux, pretty sure you can game on them as well. The new gen consoles are very good admittedly but PC gaming just ticks my boxes, I actually only got a PC originally to play FM but i got hooked on steam and buying bargains haha.

With the recent announcements regarding the PS3, PSP and Vita stores being closed down soon I thought it was a good idea to finally look into jailbreaking my lovely PS Vita.

Why did I not do this sooner? Not only do I know have access to loads of games (many I would never have had access to in the past) but I can also run Retroarch which is very handy.

Funny you should say that. I recently injured my neck badly and my physio has told me to stop slouching on the couch and use a dining or office chair we keep my neck straight. I can’t do that on a sofa. Screen position matters too, most people look up at their TVs because they mount them too high, with a PC you can set your position and screen height easily without buying new furniture. I think it’ll be good for my posture.

Generally I’ve always agreed with your line of thinking; gaming should be a pick up and play experience that is straight out the box. But the lines between console and PC are slowly blurring. You buy a PS5 for £450 and they give you a 825gb SSD, so you’ll need to upgrade that very quickly, and the compatible storage isn’t even out yet, and expected to be very expensive. Then there’s the constant huge updates and the staggered pricing of consoles (digital, disc and pro in the future).

The modding world in PC has taken gaming to a different level. I finally have a good opportunity to jump on board. I’m too intrigued not to.

Great post. I think the creating a PC ship for me has long sailed, and am a creature of comfort no longer having to beg to set up the commodore 64 up and take over the telly.

Games is what makes the difference for me between pc and console, none of the games I enjoy a come out for console. Console is great for more traditional mainstream gaming (which I’m mostly bored to death with) but you’re never going to get stuff like Tarkov, iracing, squad etc coming to console without them being severely dumbed down.

When you say dumbed down I read it as Undercomplicating.

Theres a reason those games don’t get a wide release and it usually coz they’re terrible.

They don't get a wide release on console because the games are not suited to being played on a joypad and the market for these types of games on console is very limited.

Your logic seems to be that unless its released on console and massively popular then its usually because the games are rubbish, which is a bit of a strange logic. Not once have I ever considered a game being available on all platforms as a factor as to whether its a good game or not.

You must admit you’d have to wade through some pretty bad games to find anything even remotely interesting though. Id stand by the fact if its not on console its because its just not as good, and the time spent developing it properly wouldnt be worth it.

It’s a big factor for me. I’m keen on iRacing. Gran Turismo is the game closest to it on PS4 but it’s too casual and the penalty system is horrible.

The AAA games don’t interest me any more, besides the Rockstar games. The last games I’ve got hooked on are both indie games.

I’m really keen to check out Squad, Arma, SCUM iRacing.

Good lord no.

Rimworld would be a train wreck on consoles because of the inputs required, yet is one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Football Manager gets no console release for the same reason beyond light ports to mobile.

Starcraft II, one of if not the best RTS games of all time, is a PC exclusive because of the intricacies required.

The entire Total War series is yet another one.

Thousands of other examples.

I don't wade through anything, either on pc or console.

I know what kind of games interest me and thus I keep an eye on them through development and if they get positive response upon release ill check them out. There aren't many games I regret buying.

Not as good as what ? There is no comparable game on console to Tarkov or Squad... that's the entire point, you cant get these specific styles/genres of games on console, they literally don't exist because the user base for them is historically pc based (for various reasons).

As @Tubey has pointed out there are many more examples such as RTS games, football manager etc

Pretty much the same here, id happily play a new GTA and dabble in a bit of Warzone or R6 Siege from time to time but beyond that all my favourite games are made by smaller devs who don't need to worry so much about selling 10s of millions of units and can take bigger creative risks.

If you ever get round to checking out iRacing let me know, can probably get you a discount code for the initial subscription ;)

Mate games are developed on a PC, there are a lot lot more games available for pC than console.

Yeah I play FM on my Mac. But I meant if you wanted to do any serious PC gaming, it involves using Windows... just down to software availability as much as anything else.

FM is available on Xbox these days again.
