Computer games.

Yeah that's fair enough. I despise turn based strategy games, but have always had a big love for CRPGs
Really enjoyed Civ5 for a long time, but I dunno, it just didnt look for me.

I recently also played a Total War game cos its something ive thought I would like since forever, thankfully I bought it on Steam so could refund it after playing it for an hour and half and thinking nar.

Anyone play the Armoured Core games? A lot of excitement for AC6 in the Dark Souls fanbase atm, just on basic Miyazaki considerations.
Seems like that genre (mechs fighting) is a million miles from the Souls magic, but the man hasn't missed yet.

I tried it on old ps2 back in the day and found them quite boring, repetitive and limited, especially compared to Mechwarrior games i played on PC.

A lot of hype for this game comes simply because its Dark Souls/Elden Ring developer. But anyway long time has passed since ps2 so probably gonna be much different and open now, especially considering big budget increase.

I've seen a lot of people pushing back against BG3 recently. It's pretty strange because it's as close to flawless as I've seen for a long long time.

I think this is the problem when a very niche game gets relatively popular. People go in expecting something that it isn't. It's a Dungeons and Dragons game, not Dark Souls. The party system is essential to the game and obviously the turn based combat is too, it wouldn't work any other way.

People just need to go into games and enjoy what they actually are, not what they want or expect them to be.
The thing is I do like turn based combat. Xcom 2 is great. BG3, not so much.

I'm also open to enjoying a D&D RP game, so it's not that the genre isn't my thing.

For me it's just not this amazing game that the hype would have you believe. Game of the year, or in your words flawless, I just don't get it.

My advice would be, assuming you buy it on Steam, make the most of your two hour refund window. Don't mess about for ages with character creation. Get straight in and play as much as you can to decide if you want to keep it.

Voice acting is as abysmal as the last trailer o_O

The casual-looking combat combined with unchallenging-looking AI isn't filling me with much hope either.

Hopefully be decent but feels like they are watering it down for console consumption.

There probably gonna be a lot of mods for it that change feel and realism and such on PC.

Original games have tons of mods, literally whole another games made on top of them. There are also a lot of great mods in Russian/Ukrainian community (they love this series) that never got translated to English.

Sounds like my love life.

Enjoyed the first one, didn't even know they were making a sequel!
If you find it painful sweaty I can suggest just relax and let go like you are about to poop and before you know it you'll be taking all the inches, gurt be damned.

Yeah played the first. I just so happened to see an add in the news feed few months ago. It came out just a few hours ago. But like you I always miss these great indie games late. Testimoment to the lack of massive publisher money to advertise.

I'll let you know if it's as good as the first. Very hard not to improve upon.

Didn't realise mod support was confirmed, that gives me a bit more hope.

Personal opinion, the combat is rubbish.

The rest of the game is OK, but I don't understand all the praise it gets. I was expecting more TBH.

I'm plodding through it bit by bit, but once I finish it, I won't go back.
What were you expecting mate?

It's not bug free obviously and they're fixing those, some people are saying the ending is a bit underwhelming but my first (good) run is as completionist as I can so me and the SO aren't finished yet, at over 100 hours. Is it gonna be GOTY? I dunno, I hope, probably? So far there's no other realistic contenders (and I hope space skyrim Starfield isn't a broken mess too) as most have been underwhelming or just crap this year.

Also on the topic of Bethesda - hopefully people realise/understand that those bugs are bugs born out of the game not being finished/good/tested, not "features". How people got tricked into believing that is beyond me.

I really don't get the "combat sucks" shouts. It's the classic thing that people do of having unrealistic expectations of something and then being disappointed that it isn't what they expected (even though it was never supposed to be that thing). People are disappointed it doesn't have Soul-like combat, it's baffling. It's like playing FIFA and being disappointed you can't pick the ball up and run with it.

I've heard Act 3 definitely has issues and feels a little unfinished. Characters that should be dead in your run reappearing, voice lines that makes no sense etc.

I'm about to start Act 3 I think (well like 10 hours away I'm guessing) so we'll see.

So far though, I've loved every second.

What do you mean I can't call an airstrike on the gnomes? Can't even first person and use an AK47? Demand a refund ffs.
They said literally at the start that it will be a D&D turn-based combat system, no idea how people are surprised by that.

It's defo heavier on the PC in act 3, load times increased and they've apparently cut out a pretty substantial part of it (without going into spoilers), but dataminers have found it's in the game, just not enabled basically, and the game keeps getting optimised time after time...

Last patch fixed that for a lot of them but some still appear to exist. Early on in our game Astarion knew about the Towers pretty much before we'd even gotten all the companions lol We hadn't even been told about that place, yet he was all "ah yeah we should definitely go there and do that" lol
That's been fixed apparently, and the hotfix stopped Gale from having knowledge of things before they happened circa late act2/early act3 lol

Same though, loving it. Hopefully the inevitable (for Larian games) definitive edition fixes a lot of the small things by the time it rolls out. So far slow and steady seems to be the practice, can't say I can fault them, it's a game full of things to do/read if you want to do that.

I did mention Xcom 2 a few post's up, but have never mentioned Darksouls so I don't know why you are referring to that.

When a game has been hyped to f'k as BG3 has it's a bit hypocritical to say people have unrealistic expectations.

It's OK, it's not in my opinion amazing. Fanboys will disagree.
