Computer games.

I fear that the days of wonderfully written, single player 'story' games are coming to an end. The constant push of the multiplayer aspect of games means that developers are basically creating a shell of a game, pushing it out to an audience and saying 'Here, entertain yourself'

I don't want to play against other people - I want to play a game constructed for ME, to play on my own and immerse myself totally into the story and action. The very best games don't pander to the multiplayer audience, and don't treat the player as idiots. The best games have scripts as good as great films, and are capable of stirring emotions in the player like those great movies.

I loved the fact that Bioshock didnt have a multiplayer element - It was like a big two fingers up to the market at the time. That game (and Bioshock Infinite to a degree) are little masterpieces - Focusing mainly on the story element and backing that up with a very effective engine.

The Last of Us is probably the greatest game I've played in the past few years, and before that it was Red Dead Redemption, and originally Final Fantasy VII - The thing they all have in common? Great stories and characters you really care about.

No games have stories and scripts as good as great films and the technology isn't there yet for games to deliver the same emotional impact. People will say look at mass effect but that's a perfect example of my point, the comnversation scenes are awkward and clumsy. Only once the technology is there for computer generated characters to have perfect lip sync, facial expressions etc like in high level CGI will I be able to have the same kind of emotional response that great cinema can give me.

Bioshock, half life, last of us... Great games but not even close to great cinema in terms of storytelling.

For this reason I prefer multiplayer... It's much more enjoyable playing with other people than grinding it out against dumb and cheap ai

For this reason I prefer multiplayer... Plus there is zero satisfaction in beating AI.

I know this isnt exactly a high bar to get over, but the first Knights of the Old Republic game was much, much better than any of the Star Wars prequels (and Return of the Jedi, to be honest). Also I found ME was a lot more emotionally involving when you brought a character through all three games - having a romance with Ashley and then seeing someone who looked like her dead in the final charge was a bit mad.

Sorry but I disagree here, the Uncharted series on PS3 was fantastic - great story, characters and emotion.

The closest I've felt to actually being in a movie whilst playing a game.

Can't wait for the next one on PS4

That may be, but whenever I see a brilliant movie, I still feel like I have watched something. When I play a brilliant game I feel apart of it, immersed in it.

Saw a trailer for just cause 3 earlier, I never played the first one, but loved the second one, it might not be out till Christmas though, the trailer says "holiday", which I think is American for "Christmas Time"

Agreed, The last of us remastered is the only one of the franchise I have played, but it still had the same affect on me. I can't wait to play the next Unchartered

I love The Last of Us too, Naughty Dog really know how to make cinematic games, funny to think they started out doing Crash Bandicoot

KOTOR was something special for sure. I even enjoyed the second one in fairness, but the first's story really got me into it.

With the poor standard of games these days, I'd take one as good as KOTOR2 any day!
