3-1 then, 2 from rossi, 1 from de rossi

nought much howard could have done

All I really needed to hear. As long as Howard stood little chance of saving the goals, I'm content.

The US national team is unfortunately, quite poor. The little international talent they have is spread thin - Altidore may be special be he's still very young. Aside from Onyewu and Bocanegra, there's little in the defense. Donovan is supremely overrated and while I do like Dempsey, the midfield is otherwise barren.

Not surprised with the result. Could have been much worse with the US going a man down in the 1st half. Was the red warranted?

Two long range efforts beat Howard. Maybe these two were forgiveable but he does have a question mark over him on dealing with shots from long range.

United letting Rossi and Pique go. Sort of puts our Jagielka balls up into context. I'll bet questions are being asked at boardroom level by those Glazer ****s. :P

tbh this is probably the best i've seen the US national team play, though we did kinda turn off for a while.

i don't think Onyewu is very good at all, i'd say spectre and bornstein are probably better. The red card was definitely not warranted, he couldn't have complained about a booking, but to call that a straight red is absurd.

i agree donovan is overrated, i hate him but today i think he played pretty well. i'm just really really pissed that an american scored the two goals that made the difference (and celebrated both goals enthusiastically), and i think were it not for the sending off, the game could have been very different.

Scoreline didnt reflect the game, was a harsh red card, but it was a red card, he hacked at his knee. Cant do that, but ive seen much worse not even get a yellow. Italy should have had 10 men with the pen.

Italy were very poor, only Rossi looked like a player and the US did very well, Bradley was excellent, but he faded near the end, Alidore is very, very bad.

Being very harsh, but, Howard could maybe have done better with the last 2 goals, but they were well hit and he was blind for the De Rossi strike. And the 3rd was hit from about 8 yards, so hardly a chance really. No Keeper would have saved the 1st Rossi goal, wonderful strike.

You really dont wanna get into a "Whos better England or USA" discussion now do you?

We would destroy you 10 times out of 10.

I agree mate, I mean look you beat some of the best teams in the world to qualify for this.

United States
Mexico
Canada
Guadeloupe
Honduras
Panama
Costa Rica
Guatemala
El Salvador
Haiti
Trinidad and Tobago
Cuba

You're having a laugh.

Really.

Are England a better squad all the way around?

Yes.

Would they destroy us 10 out of 10 times?

Not even close.

(EDIT: Andorra, Kazakhstan, etc??? Yes, Europe has their cupcakes too my friend. In fact, in a one off match, I'd easily take Costa Rica and Honduras over those two teams.)

As for the Italy (World Champions, remember them?) vs. USA match, the red card (completely unwarranted as at most, a yellow) changed the whole complexion of the match.

The USA was growing in confidence and playing very well after weathering the initial Italian possession/attack. Italy wasn't their usual self today but give credit where credit is due. When it was 11 v 11, it was a very even contest.

Clark should feel hard done by for being sent off as he was arguably the USA's man of the match up to that point.

After that, it was all Italy as to be expected.

Very disapponted as we should have gotten something out of this match. Very disappointing.

the groups are not very evenly matched with iraq, south africa and the laughably poor new zealand in the same group.

america will have their work cut out to get out of the group now. it looks like it's been a decent tournament so far.
