Cycling thread

No, but it will increase recuperation and all other aspects of endurance.

I can't buy this, I'm sorry. His entourage doesn't inspire confidence either.

Look at Evenepoel. Ok but not great at the Dauphiné. Hit his peak last weekend. That's normal. Even in Armstrong's day.

Even a generational talent should dip in form.
This sport will always, literally ALWAYS have these doubts now. Fair enough. It does annoy me a bit though when everyone will watch the Olympics next week which is way dirtier and has way less testing.

You say Evenepoel’s performance was normal, but what’s gone under the radar is Remco also beat that Pantani time last week.

I used to be dubious when they would say “oh technology has moved on now” until I read this and couldn’t believe how much time they actually save:

Pantanis bike weighed less

We'll see. What the future holds.

Another interesting take.

See you again after he takes Lombardia after a 77 km solo.
Last year's was equally funny. Remember he supposedly had cramp on the run in, but then recovered such that he could hold off the chasing group single-hended, and even pull out his lead.

Visual at the end of the TT was telling. Vingegaard was still catching his breath after a TT in which he beat the world champion with 25 seconds.
Pogacar won a minute on Vingegaard and was already hugging and laughing with his teammates.

Pogacar out of the Olympics. Extreme exhaustion the reason. Didn't he look it. Who will the doctors at the Olympics test instead?
Unexpected news, to put it mildly. Pog slays that course.

His girlfriend Urska Zigart is the best Slovenian female cyclist, and was not selected under contentious circumstances - national coach alleged to be favouring athletes in his own team. So there might be a political dimension to his actions.
Or maybe he is just tired.

Would love to see Wout van Aert peak for the Olympic road race, but he looked a long way from his usual imperious condition in the Tour. Saying that, MvDP had an anonymous, illness-disrupted Tour last year but came on mega-strong for the Worlds.

Good piece here on the Belgian tactics that won gold in the road race. Deserves some kudos I think, given how easy it is to completely bollox this particular race up. Of course it's easier to be a tactical mastermind when you have the strongest team in world cycling.

Women's race was even better yesterday - very tactical. Really strong ride from team GB to put everyone in the final group, but Pfeiffer Georgi didn't quite have the legs to go with the winning move. Gutting result for Blanka Vas the way it played out.

Ineos in bits already in the Vuelta.
Team selection and DS being criticised.
Is Jim losing interest in favour of his new toy?
It's interesting isn't it? Pog, Vingegaard, Remco, and MvdP seem likely to win the vast majority of races they enter, and its left the rest scrabbling around a bit. I'm sure they thought that Bernal was going to be that kind of generational talent to carry the baton for them, but whatever has changed since he got his injury, he's well off the pace. I suspect it's as simple as that rather than them not doing certain things. I mean TGH hasn't exactly ripped up trees since going to Trek.
