2024/25 David Moyes

Just been given a warning for my Dementia post. Ridiculous as that is because it was only a joke. I said it before, old man says Moyes is a good appointment, I say does he have Dementia? Because it is a stupid and desperate appointment.

But I digress. What I did find most amusing was this statement that was copy and pasted from the GOT manual to my inbox.

"GrandOldTeam prides itself on offering Everton fans a place for intelligent and respectful debate about the issues that matter to them, offering a feature-rich, intelligent and moderated forum for our readers to share their own personal views on all things Everton FC"

Intelligent, Respectful, Feature-Rich????

See you soon. Pick a better name next time.

Surely, they had a few names in the back of their head.

They proved to take strange decisions at Roma, like the de Rossi situation. Extended him till 2027 after a bad run during the summer break to bin him 4 games later into the new season.

For my common sense it's stupid and illogical in the same time then to give someone like Moyes a 2,5 years contract being a manager, not a 6 months and then going to the board contract, which would also have been a possibility to just bin him. We don't have money to throw around.

the finances should be better next season

let’s see what the plan TFG have

they may have had names in the back of they’re head

dyche going has changed the whole thing

horrible horrible post

In relative terms it could be seen as a success, depends on your barometer i guess. From the mess he inherited, to what he left us with, someone else posted somewhere else about the nr of players bought, spend and so on in comparative terms to other teams in the same period which only highlights it even more.

No, he didn't win a trophy, he came close, but from what he inherited to what he left, were almost worlds apart. To see you scoff at this and blithely almost dismiss it is frankly ridiculous.

Whatever you think of him and supposed glass ceilings etc. he left us in a good position. We then appointed an imbecile and it quickly descended into a mess, not helped by owners, interference and a total lack of understanding how to run a football club.
Ultimately like most of the managers we employ he’s a bit marmite .
It isn’t just that we never won a trophy , it’s also that we never seriously competed for anything , in 11 years .
The football was better than Dyche’s latterly , but it was still limited.
No matter how little money we had to spend , Moyes always made sure he was one of the best paid managers in Europe let alone in the PL. That was the price he exacted to not be over critical of Kenwright and expose him to greater supporter opprobrium than he otherwise faced .
I regard him as an able but limited manager , and a cynical self serving person .
Any claim he may make to any affinity to our club should be heard with large doses of of scepticism.
Moyes is loyal to Moyes and nothing else .
Let just hope he can steer us out of this mess and not fail as he did at Sunderland.
And I also hope that , despite the rumoured contract length , that our owners do not plan to have him in place beyond the seasons end .
We owe this person no loyalty , whatever our finishing position.

Spurs are not a very good team. They are a mid-table side being managed by a walking ideologue soon for the sack. Moyes is here to improve on his predecessor. We cannot afford any more "expected defeats". Every game from here on in will help define our season. We threw away too many points in the first 10 matches to have the luxury of picking and choosing our games to target.
We will have to beat Spurs if we haven't beaten Villa first.

Moyes has a short window to address the two glaring issues of wins and goals.

Villa should be a tougher game but Spurs, at home we simply have to beat them. Their league season is as good as over in competitive terms with a manager waiting for a call from Levy any day now.

If it needs one of those dogs of war, blood and guts, sucking the ball over the line type victories, and it isn't likely to be much else - whatever. It's just another game for Spurs. Ours have to show that it a cup final.

So just so I’m clear, expectations have now been reset back to 2012 and we must now win a trophy? Because I’ve been getting told all season that 17th would be an achievement with this squad and we’ve spent nothing and can’t hope to compete with the Brentfords and Fulhams of the world, let alone beat the top 6 to a trophy.

This is the problem though isn't it. People were happy to sit there and give dyche time because "he'll keep us up" but now moyes is in people want him to win every game or they'll be on his back.

The next 3 games are very difficult games we could get 9 points or we could get 0. Fact of the matter is all were looking from this season is to stay up and these 3 games wont be the deciding factor of that ambition.

Its not about picking and choosing its about being realistic. We can't suddenly exspect to beat every team in the league just so people can use it as a stick to beat Moyes with if we dont.

We won 3 games so far this season. If moyes wins 6 he'll of doubled dyches tally and hot us safe so thats all im looking for from everton this season
I wasn't happy to give Dyche a minute more after the home collapse to Bournemouth. He was cooked. But if you are going to sack him, you must demand an improvement - otherwise we have wasted money paying him off and getting a new guy in on a longish contract.

Moyes needs to start picking up points. I don't demand miracles - or instant results - but I do demand improvement. These first two games will set the mood. February will then, likely, go a long way to showing us whether he will keep us up or not. Now is not the time to install Moyes's glass ceiling for him. He will do that of his own accord. I wish him well. But there's no senitment from me for his return.

I agree with you completely. Many of us are disappointed that the great hope of new ownership has been boiled down to the return of Moyes, but needs must (even if I believe there are other managers in world football that a prepared ownership could have tapped instead). But he's here now and I will support him. But that support, as with all Everton managers, is predicated on results - not sentiment. I'm hopeful he can get the results we need, starting this week.

There is nothing funny about Dementia. I have a friend who's wife has Dementia and barely even remembers him most days. She is close to the end and it has absolutely destroyed him too.

Maybe think before you make ignorant and insensitive posts.

I never said 17th would be an achievement, can’t hoist me on that petard.
And I’m not suggesting we win ( or more pertinently ) contest a trophy this season .
I was merely trying to illustrate the historical reasons for my dislike and low regard of this manager.
Also why although I fervently hope he can guide away from relegation I equally hope his tenure here is as short as possible.
I hope that provides greater clarity for you .

Look to blame the former regime for where our expectations currently sit, rather than the manager who’s just been appointed to try and pick us back off the floor, just as he was in 2002.
