2024/25 David Moyes

Changes will come next game I’m quite sure. I’d be disappointed if Young or Mangala/Doucoure are not drop and reduced the slow/silly possesion for a more direct 4 4 2.

Beto is a better partner for DCL.

I didn't think it would happen, but people would have hoped for some sort of bounce.

We got a splat.

There was nothing there tonight that vindicated the decision to bring Moyes in. Sacking Dyche was necessary. Nobody will convince me rehiring Moyes was. I don't have the solution - but I hoped the owners had a bit of a plan. Seems like they didn't...
Oh you’re talking about “new manger bounce”. That’s on the players, not the appointment of the manager.

I am not too disheartened with that tonight. First game was always going to be dodgy with these players. Better shape, had more of the ball, created 11 chances with 3 on target, their goal came from our mistake, results below went in our favour. Moyes will have learnt a lot from that tonight and will know where he needs to change and strengthen to improve things.

Who would you have picked in their places?
I'd have firstly identified that Dyche's favoured XI has got us deep in a relegation fight and doesn't look capable of even forcing goalkeepers into decent saves. I'd have established that choosing the same XI isn't going to improve our chances of winning games.

I'd have started Patterson, O'Brien and Lindstrom over Young, Doucoure and Harrison and played 5-2-2-1 with Ndiaye and Lindstrom playing behind the striker.

I thought we had more bite going forward, but still don't have the personnel required to score goals.

The stats on BBC show a more even picture than how it felt watching.

I would have preferred Beto and Jake to have come on nearer the 60 min mark though.

Can do bugger all in the few minutes they got.
Dcl was dead on his feet at the hour mark indeed, and should have been replaced then giving beto 30 minutes to show us what he can do.

If we're going to persist in Mangala/Gana then we couldve gave Lindstrom a go ahead of them instead of donkey Doucoure, could easily have played a 3 and gave Paterson a start at RWB.. and we couldve played Bergovic instead of Harrison and we wouldve turned the ball over less.
Easy
bravo

Like who? Not a single player on that bench makes a difference.

Would have been happy to play a back 3, same as we did against Peterborough, so that we could push full backs up and in turn give Patterson another game or Young not having to be so defensive.

In turn I'd have been happy once again to see Harrison Armstrong who actually looks like a footballer and has football intelligence.

Finally, I'd have been happy to say to Beto "hey mate, you scored last week so guess what, I'll give you another run out because we need out strikers to score goals".

Or, if he was insistent on keeping the exact same team shape as today, Lindstrom starting in place of Harrison, Beto starting again (I believe strikers should be rewarded for scoring the odd goal)

There's a couple of options. Not world beating options by any stretch but options and not giving the same players who are crap week in week out, starts as if by some magic they're going to suddenly become world beaters.

He’s been back for about 3 days…
... 3 days too many

What can he do ? Unless we sign some players he's limited . He can maybe swap Young for Patterson , Harrison' for Lindstrom and dcl for Beto but that's your lot

Totally agree but he’s very inexperienced right now and he was playing against
Peterborough but that’s the type we need right now.
If you are good enough then you are old enough imo, and he can do things others can't, his range of passing is far better than the other midfielders we have. We are the only club who's fanbase seems to get hung up about age/experience its very strange, I genuinely think some would rather keep the under performers so they can have a moan.
