2024/25 David Moyes

I'd say Tim has been a bigger miss. A midfielder who is box to box and passes forwards. Our midfield is just so static. When your playing 3 midfielders, you need at least one to be progressive with the ball.

Looking forward to having him back, and Garner as well of course

Despite their limitations, those 2 and McNeil are the 3 players, after NDiaye, with a semblance of technical quality. And naturally they've been missing for months. They could really make a difference but my word we need them back soon.

Yes. Mangala is not the workhorse Moyes would like and he's meh. He's for the bench when those return.

I don't mind Mangala I the sense he's very tidy on the ball, doesn't get flustered and definitely has a shot on him. But he's not busting a gut to get in the box, he's not busting a gut to get back either. It's all a little bit safe in safe areas. 6/10 most games I reckon and a 12-15m player. But we need players chucking in an 8/10 every 3 games of possible.

Major issue with our side is the midfield imo, it's just so static and zero chemistry in there.

Doucoure offers purely energy but at the cost of zero positioning or ability on the ball. Gueye has woeful positioning and just harries but again little ability to create anything, Mangala is as you say neat and tidy but so slow and again creates nothing. None provide any interplay or get into the box to provide options.

Garners the best of the lot and can actually pass it, and is decent getting into the box but often ends up being the sitting player due to Gueye being unreliable in that role, Tim at least provides some forward running but again was often ending up as the sitting player to accommodate Gueye going forward pressing and not getting back when we had it to allow Tim to get forward.

Overall Gueye and Doucoure are for me major issues and the sooner both leave next summer the better. Mangala I think is just meh.

Need badly to add a player who gets into the box late or a genuine energetic player who can cover ground AND is positionally aware.

Fully fit best we have I'd say is Garner and Tim with Lindstrom ahead of them

Need a starting right back, need a centre mid, need a right winger, need a striker, need a left back as Mykolenko good game aside has been gash for months now.

Priority is right now a right winger and a starting centre mid imo followed by a right back.

tough first game, was a shame not to see a few more changes both to the starting xi and in game. hoped Patterson would start but could understand against the likes of Digne, Ramsay, Rodgers and a strong side to stick with Young. really thought he’d come on when we went behind a la Coleman vs Spurs but he must be really out of sorts

Thought Beto should have come on earlier, not many other options, probably not the right game for Armstrong

positives were more pressing and a bit more of the ball on the floor but depressingly low on quality and zip

Priority imo mate is

Right back
Left back
Right wing
Left wing
Centre mid
Box to box mid with energy
Striker
Back up striker

Think we might just survive this season then 😉

Ok. The slight whiff of faint optimism after the pre match presser and club interviews has been thoroughly smacked out of me. It’s a massive challenge, we have no quality and copious mentions of Dyche.

The only positive is that he looks terrified and sickened by the ineptitude going forward. Dyche would have said there was a lot about the performance he liked, always in the game, find a way to score, clarity in both boxes, moments, graaarse.

Back to telling the truth about how crap we are in that interview though. Going to be a slog unless a couple of signings hit the ground running.
