2024/25 David Moyes

….post-match comments very much akin to Dyche regarding lack of quality in possession, particularly in the top third.

You can only play the hand your dealt and there is a common denominator regarding the mediocracy at both managers disposal. Let’s hope Moyes can address that in this window, I’m glad we’ve at least waited to get him in so that he can identify targets.

Picked same team Dyche was playing. Similar tactics. Of course Dyche would have swapped Harrison for Lindstrom on 59 minutes, we’d conceded a goal. Dyche would have definitely stood on the sidelines making no further tactical changes/subs until the 83rd minute! Dyche has brought Beto on to play with DCL before.

Had to pick roughly the same team as he has got no other options, but that was definitely not the same tactics, we were in their faces last night and played like the home team for the 1st time last night, also the crowd was back to being goodison.

You will see a different starting 11 on Sunday, as Dyche would stick to the same

We need to get improvements, and I trust in Moyes that he saw that Harrison, Doucoure and DCL can't be the solution.

The squad is on its knees with confidence , we look like the belief that we can score has been beaten out of us with negative tactics. I hope Moyes tries different things once he has had a bit longer because as we have seen sticking to the same side and formation is not going to work

I thought our overall play was improved on what had been served up previously TBH. Hopefully this can be the start of an upward curve in form.

Some comments from Moyes after the game:

"It is a huge challenge at the moment, I can see that," said Moyes. "Sean has brought in a great group of players with their attitude and commitment but we are desperately needing to add some quality in some areas, mainly to create and to finish - we need to get those levels up.

"The club has probably not been able to go to a level of player in the market that can make the difference."

The end result was the same. But the difference last night was we created 2 clear cut golden chances, and should have had a penalty.

We had been creating nothing in the previous weeks. We should have scored last night, especially the awful miss at the end.

The team was set up well enough to get a couple of goals and the players weren't good enough. I prefer that to the tactics we had at Bournemouth

He's seen two of his four defenders basically gift Villa two goals out of nothing when completely under no pressure at all. We only conceded once because Watkins messed up that easy opportunity in the first half after Young assisted him. There can be no way that back 4 starts against Spurs, yet it probably will.
Branthwaite should be called out too. Very good player but was very sloppy in possession yesterday

Until we give Moyes more options, he's going to have to play some of the players that aren't good enough to be playing which is the unfortunate factor in this situation.

We don't need new recruits just for quality, but to inject some life into the squad and team. We look completely dejected. Set aside the end Bournemouth result (2-3 game) and look at the performance and you saw how Ndiaye that day in his first league start for us, injected some life and energy into the team. We saw it on Thursday against Peterborough with Armstrong. We need players in to do that for us again.

It's going to be another end of season run where moments matter rather than overall consistency.

I keep seeing this and I don't understand it at all.

It was just as bad (it would be, it was the exact same players) only with a bit of added dangerous messing around with it at the back.

It was awful, turgid stuff.

I've seen that performance under Dyche plenty of times at home where we create and just can't take our chances and are punished for it. Granted Moyes has only been here a week but after one game he's already said the players are ass and he's burnt out. Hoping TFG can give him some players but time is ticking.

Opinions ain't it. It was bad, but I don't think as bad as what we had been showing previously. There was a bit more structure to our game in possession I thought
