Carrying that around all bottled up for years and blaming himself for it cannot have boded well for him. Now he has opened up at last he must feel lighter, free-er and could be the fresh start he needs. What a weight he has just lifted off his shoulders. Hopefully this will have helped him enormously and enable him to focus his life.

Well done Dele for unburdening yourself.

Spurs position in this is very interesting.

As an employee they owed him a duty of care and one wonders what treatment regime they put in place for him.

With regard to the transfer , if they had medical knowledge relating to the player which they withheld it could lead to the transfer being null and void.

Everton can't play him with the £10m clause hanging over him.

Surely the way forward is for Everton to negotiate a revision of the £10m clause .
Did they know about this when they negotiated the deal of the transfer that he needed help ?

Again, we don’t know this. Deli’s price may have been included in the finances already.

He's been pictured there. No idea when that interview was recorded though as in it he was a few weeks away from returning
Was recorded on 7th July mate, so last week.

It was very interesting when GN asked him about this season and his expectations, and he mentioned the conversations with Dyche. He only wanted to focus on the non-football side of those conversations. I'm guessing he doesn't want to put unreasonable expectations in the heads of Everton fans, but it was as clear as could be to me that he just wants to get back and show what he can do first - and as he said, he wants and believes he can be better than the player he was.

I for one am glad he's under contract to us while we all find out if he can do that.

I feel for him in a way here though. Im not sure we are in a position to risk the payment, especially as he will be out of contract at the end of the season. But Spurs dont gain if he goes now for buttons or free. Dele gains nothing and it wont help if he's just sitting on the bench caught in the middle.

Surely 3 parties can come to an agreement where we can take a risk financially, Dele gets a proper chance and Spurs are willing to take a smaller guaranteed fee, rather than nothing.

That was difficult to watch.
Of course it must have been far harder for him to publically talk about such personal issues.
I had always understood that he had a 'difficult' upbringing . . . but Jesus H Christ that interview brought tears to my eyes
The fact that he even survived such a terrible childhood is testament to his strength and determination.
Fantastic to see that he has started therapy and that he is now at a stage where he can talk openly about his problems. This is just the beginning of his recovery though and I really hope that things work out well for him in the future.
The thing I never understood about Dele today was that any time I'd hear him speak or seen anything of him first hand he's always seemed like a really nice, intelligent lad, and then you get the media perception of him as a lazy party boy with an attitude problem.

The other thing (and I've said it on here before) that never squared with me is that the media perception was that he'd lost interest in football and just wanted the money, but he had no need to come here to try to revive his career, or to go to Besiktas to try to make it work there. If he didn't care he could've stayed in London collecting fat cheques- his contract at Everton is the same length as the one he had at Spurs so he had no need to move. Clearly he is still a guy that wants to be a top footballer but who was held back by all his other issues.

Although I'm not glad about the horrible stuff that's happened about him it's good to know he isn't how the media have portrayed him and that the issues he has to overcome are issues any of us would struggle to overcome.

That's the big question.

Spurs , as his employer should have known. Did they withold this info ?
Why would they know? He only told people about it this week.

And even if they did know its not something you would just divulge to anybody it could have affected him and his ability to get a new club too.

The fee is massive on games played - on paper that should have not been a problem as he was in the past a top performer - he has not just failed with us, but with his loan club too ..... He was not playing regularly for Spurs when BK sealed the deal too, imo they must have known ....

They have certainly not done the best they could by him in duty of care terms, if his teammates knew he had issues it wouldn't have been hard for management to see it. Instead of offering him help at a point that could've helped nip things in the bud they sought to transfer him out of the club. TBH the least they could do is now reach an agreement to let him play a full season of football.

In terms of the transfer I doubt they withheld medical knowledge as such, if anything they were burying their heads in the sand to avoid having that knowledge. Even if there were a case we could bring against Spurs about the transfer and what they did or didn't know, it would be a horrendous look for us to start disputing that. Just be the good guys and continue giving him the support he didn't get from them.
