If he's capable and up to the required standard, just play him, refuse to pay Spurs alleging they knew of his addictions, let it drag through courts for a couple of years, then pay them when FFP isn't thing. the downfall to this plan is if the PL stop us playing him whilst making our case.

I can't believe some people are actually saying that we should be willing to consider keeping him, even on some alternative deal. He's been dreadful and has offered nothing. We aren't in a position to keep carrying players in the hope that they may come good. Spurs couldn't wait to offload him. He needs time sway from football and away
I think Spurs have come out of this looking a bit grubby, for want of a better word.
I agree with this. It would be better optics if Spurs were to renegotiate the deal so he can play football without restrictions.

I’ve been thinking that a renegotiation would be the best all round. Not sure that could happen though and I imagine Dele will be left in a situation where he will have to go on loan again.
I’m not sure Spurs could sensibly do anything but renegotiate. It’s only a matter of time before the spotlight shines brightly on them and it would be wise for them to do the right them by the lad now. I have a hunch this might be what happens soon.

Reading through this thread is saddening. I make jokes about how some on here have their whole life revolving around Everton, but imagine watching that interview and your first thought being “How does this affect Everton?”

Such a pitiful existence.

It’s how it affects him as well mate. It sounds very much like he wants to get right mentally and playing football will help him do that. If Everton have got the constraints of this £20m or whatever it is they aren’t going to be able to freely play him unfortunately.
If the deal was different and we were able to bring him in without the constraints he would massively benefit

I don't disagree mate, but bringing the likes of Rooney, baxter et al doesn't help either. Some players, managers etc. could be certifiable basket cases and they would get a free pass form some of our fans provided they thought the individual ‘g
Why is bringing someone like Baxter back, who we were responsible for coaching from a young age and into profession football, and who ended up (probably with football as a contributing factor) addicted to substances etc, a bad thing? I always see his name come up as a reason as to why we’re some kind of ‘soft touch’ but it’s not like he was ever going to get near the playing team. We were ultimately fulfilling a duty of care and giving the lad a bit of a platform to build from again.

Problem is none of us know if Baxter is any good in the role he is doing, its only speculation.

Lets say for arguments sake, he isnt great.

Just because of his background if he isnt good enough in the role he shouldn't be doing it. However, if the club have brought him in as an ADDITION to someone else to learn, build himself up, help use his experience and problems to help younger players stay on a good path, Nothing wrong with that.

He may be the lead in his role and he may be very good at it. We don't know.

We do leave the door open to former players having a role with us, so its fair that sentimentality gets mentioned.

On Dele,

I'd love nothing more than the Dele we saw at Spurs comes back and plays with confidence and the quality he has. As someone who fights demons regularly I get it and hope that interview, getting it out there releases some of the demons from his shoulders.

However those being questioned as to looking at it from Everton's point of view. They have to, They have a duty of care to him which he has said himself Everton have been absolutely supportive. We also cannot just have to spend £10m just to 'protect the lad'.

He can still stay, train and if he gets back his mental strength, he can play and if he's going to justify that £10m, then great. Otherwise he doesn't play. Simple as that. Nobody should be questioned for asking how it effects Everton.

There are questions over Spurs/Levy pulling a fast one, but if we hadn't been scrambling so late on Deadline day for him, the due checks with references from players at spurs would have been done. Dyche gets character references for any potential signing.

It is what it is, Everton are doing right by supporting him but also protecting themselves. It isn't heartless to ask how it affects Everton going forward, because it does affect Everton. If he isn't at the level to play, he doesn't play, if he is at the level, he plays. Simple as that.

Won’t happen but it would be great PR for Spurs to renegotiate the fee

Before worrying about renegotiating, selling him, loaning him back out, cancelling his contract etc etc, let's just let him get fit and then see if Dyche thinks he can offer something to the squad.

One step at a time needed and that means getting him out on the training pitch and getting physically fit

I wouldn't put it past Bill being told about his current issues, hence why we got essentially a glorified loan deal.
