Still can’t get my head round the fact that people don’t think he is actually an Everton player!
I've been through this a few times, now, in this thread. I was expressing myself clumsily to indicate that Dele wasn't a 'normal' Everton player, in that he had that large financial penalty if he was played much more. Consequently, the huge bulk of folk on here believed he was virtually unpickable, and Dyche would want him, anyway, with the general feeling being that Dele was half way out of the exit door. Hence he couldn't be considered to be a normal member of the squad.

All the sympathy in the world for his previous experiences but elite football should not have a place for sentimentality.

As others have said Dele hasn't played football at a decent level for many years. It would be lovely to think he can return to the player that he was 5 years ago but zero evidence of that.

In our situation ( both financial and the desperate need for points ) we have neither money or time to invest further in Deles playing rehabilitation.

Time to try and move him on ( if that's even possible)

That is not strictly speaking true.
He has played football at an elite level in recent years but he just has not played well.

Give up on him if you want, but there's plenty on here who aren't giving up on him. I sincerely hope Dyche is behind him too.

Everton have to find a role for him. The Spurs team he played in really pinged it around and he linked up with that like the prize piece of the jigsaw.

I hope he's lost some weight and regained some speed.

It’s not sentimentality, it’s doing the decent thing to support a player who’s had to go through some awful stuff. If he was a no mark, you could make a case that you wouldn’t play him in the first team (keep him in the ressies while he works his way back) but he’s a talented lad who could make his way back to the top. There’s no guarantee he will but elite football needs to be about more than just pushing talented players to the brink. Life’s tough enough as it is without making that the benchmark for aspiring kids.

His contract situation makes this a lot tougher than it should be, unfortunately.

With only a year left, you simply can't play him 7 times, be forced to pay £10m, then either lose him because he hasn't shown signs of his old self on the football pitch or lose him because he has and has better suitors waiting to take him on a free.

Don't think there's a player I've wanted to succeed more than him after listening to that interview but unless we're handing him a new deal on pure faith, he'll likely have to leave the club.
