Everton typically targets players that have never done anything and hope they learn to do something. Dele was great and then fell apart and they are hoping he figures it out again. It is unlikely to happen but picking guys who never scored with the expectation they will now has failed too. So it is something different.

He also owes us in terms of his rehabilitation from injury etc.

If it's a modest contract and Dyche thinks he can use him then great.

If not, let him train with us and get his head straight and good luck to him elsewhere.

They seem convinced enough to give him a go. Taking a cheap gamble on something like this is less of an issue than keeping people like Young and Coleman well past their expiration date.

If he signs a contract I’ll be rooting for him to make a decent go of it, even if all it means is he ends up moving on and finishing his career with his head held high.

At his peak he scored 27 goals and had 17 assists over 2 seasons. Granted that was 7/8 years ago and that player is long gone, but let’s not make out that he was merely “decent”.
