Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

Out of nowhere two days ago I started getting heart palpitations. Resting heart rate of 130bpm. Nothing that I know has changed, no extra stress at home or work, no spate of full English a week in a row.

Half way through a work day yesterday I forced myself to leave mid meeting and go to an urgent care. Some quick checks and an EKG later I'm on the way to the emergency room with suspected heart damage, where I spent the rest of the day with a battery of tests.

I'm back home. They acknowledge that my heart rate is high but other vitals look fine, so they've referred me to look for an appointment with a cardiologist.

Logically I understand why, but I'm scared. I suppose I could be in a anxiety spiral at this point because the not knowing and such, but also it's come on quite sudden and at 40 I thought I'd be dealing more with dodgy knee or back stuff. Ha.

Anyway, I'm going to see my GP later today because despite (or maybe because) living in New York with a million hospitals and some of the leading cardiologists in the country, the earliest I could get with someone who is a reputable MD specifically was December 23. For all those who wax lyrical about the American healthcare system, my initial visit today was £60, followed by the ER visit of £250, followed by a deductible of ~£800 (so far) for the tests so far. This is with "good" insurance. The NHS really is a modern marvel.

Anyway, just wanted to get my fear out on paper as it were. I expect it's normal with any scares like this, but also to encourage others: don't betray your body, your self or your loved ones if something just doesn't feel right. Take some steps with the experts 🙂
Well done mate on listening to your body

Glad your gonna be ok

Having an ongoing grievance with my employers over a disciplinary action brought against me earlier in the year. During a recent conversation with my manager I was informed I was deceptive, unmanageable and questioned my capabilities. Anyone with any employment law experience on how I can address this within my investigation?
Impacted on my mental health as I feel undermined and these were hardly positive affirmations.

Ask for that appraisal in writing.

They did but omitted the mention of any of them 🤔
I emailed him the next day in response so have that but no other evidence. I refused to sign the copy he sent. In any further appraisals I am going to insist on a note taker being present.

Next time, go in on the sly recording for sound. Get a character assassination like this as evidence and they'll soon change their tune.

To be fair I have nothing to lose - have written to CEO and am now raising a grievance against them in response. A bazooka and all out war are probably my aces in my sleeve 😆

Just catching up on this , over the past two months I’ve been in A+E 3 times for suspected heart attacks, I’ve had every test done imaginable and everything has come back clear so keep your fingers crossed for good news. Luckily I’m in the UK so the treatment has been free of charge. A positive that has come out of it is that I have been able to discuss a separate health issue with my GP and with hospital staff and am currently awaiting a date for an investigatory procedure, again at no cost to me.
I am currently writing this from the hospital bedside of a young 17 year old lad who lives in the hostel I manage, he sadly found himself in a very difficult place mentally earlier tonight and has taken an overdose of paracetamol.. within 3 hours of the overdose (which he told one of my team about an hour after swallowing the pills) he was treated by an excellent ambulance service, brought to A+E by them, has been triaged, has had blood tests and an ECG, and is currently on a drip in a private room recovering. Our NHS, although under massive strain, remains a fantastic service which we should never take for granted.

Hi mate,

The Dr has confirmed I have an arrhythmia but not the cause and I need more tests to assess if I have damage long term. For now I'm on some heart meds but have been very low energy and winded with the slightest exertion (installed a flush bolt on a door at home this weekend, took me 2 hour (!) and I had to take regular breath-breaks from just holding a drill or small chiseling), so something is still going on.

Fortunately the wife won't touch me either because she doesn't want me to drop dead 😂

In some ways the "can't find anything" or similar unknowns are frustrating because you're waiting for a path forward. I am trying to just listen to my body for the moment and be a bit kinder to it. I am sorry to hear about your own issues and hope you're on the mend soon.
