Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

I've had my world turned upside down.

Just over 3 weeks ago, on Sunday night I was going to bed and I got a sharp pain in my groin area, didn't feel good and when I went to the toilet I passed some blood. So we went straight to A&E. I'd been perfectly healthy before this, no symptoms of anything, I'm in my late 40's.

The Dr in A&E suspected kidney stones so sent me for a scan.....fast forward 2 hours and I'm being told I've got a very large kidney tumour and I was being admitted. My World collapsed the minute I heard the word.

A week later and they removed the kidney, which was so large it had to be done by open surgery. It looks like it's already spread though, and I now face a 6 week wait until I can have another scan. So I'm laid up in pain after major surgery and my head is all over the place. I've already written myself off I think. Broken, just broken.

Won't blag to know what you're going through mate, and as feeble as "stay positive" sounds, I'd hope if I'm ever in a similar situation I'd find the strength to do just that.

Please do keep us updated.

FFS, gutted for you mate. I can't imagine what your going through.

Have you been provided with anyone that can support you, outside of your family, as you're going to need help getting your head around it ?. ( you should have a Mac Nurse by now ? ).

My missus is a nurse and although this isn't her area, she has a good mate who is a Mac Nurse, so anything you want to know give me a shout.

I don't know whether you ever read any of his posts, but there was a lad on here Michael @wbn61 who used this thread as a form of getting stuff off his chest and keeping us all entertained whilst he fought his own battle with cancer.

I've had three mates in the past five years who've all been diagnosed with cancer, two of them have had it come back and so far all of them have been treated successfully.

Stay strong mate x

Good luck mate. You seem like one of the sounder posters on GOT so I'm sure everyone's rooting for you.

Thanks mate.

What's been really tough to take is the suddenness of it all. I've always been fit and healthy and I felt completely fine before that Sunday evening, then from nowhere boooomm.

I'm a mentally strong bloke, but this is testing that to the limit.

Sorry to hear about whats happened I know exactly how your feeling.I went from having a long term problem with a sore throat, having blood tests come up negative...to a few weeks later having a diagnosis of an aggresive throat cancer that had started to spread.Fast forward 9 3/4 years and fingers crossed in February I'll have my last yearly exam. It's a tough road but your younger than I was. It's a bit of a cliche but just try to compartmentalise your thoughts and don't let them run wild (it's maybe the hardest part) Just look for positives like John Hartson, testicular cancer spread to his brain and lungs in 2009 and still boring us witless on MOD.Oh don't start looking at internet websites about your condition.Best advise I had from a specialist nurse at Clatterbridge.Every cancer is different and how you react to treatment will be specific to you.

Thanks for sharing that mate, that's really encouraging. I've already taken the advice to ignore googling my condition, as I don't want to to pigeon hole myself. I'd thought about Hartson funnily enough.

Very good advice about not googling it mate.

Some people seem enjoy to the attention and post nothing but horror stories.

Yes, it's never a good idea to trust Dr. Google.
