Coleman is ' part of the brickwork' here at Everton so he wont be going anywhere . I fully expect Coleman to still be receiving additional 1 year contracts until hes about 38
Exactly and that is a problem in itself. I'm not suggesting that we should simply throw Coleman on the rubbish heap, however we have to balance the club's needs.

Sidibé has already shown that he can and will challenge Coleman for the right back spot, and we currently have Kenny thriving over in the Bundesliga.

Simply, we should be picking players based on their merits rather than some sentiment, and when Coleman doesn't cut the mustard then we need to act, quickly.

Yes I agree we can't go on forever. Even the likes of Lampard, terry etc got the boot in the end. Coleman was good but even before the injury and age caught up he was never top class.

Sidibe is good for now but I personally don't think hes the answer long term same with Kenny.

I'd hate to see Coleman chased out the club when hes about 36, id say one more year now.

Yepp.

We did it with Howard/Jagielka/Ferguson/Hibbert/Baines/Osman... I want to see us win things and be successful. How many teams do you see Saddled with ageing past it players?

Look at United... they shifted Ferdinand, Evra etc, Liverpool with Gerrard and Carragher, us? Nah, we keep them forever.
Coleman has been great for us, even did a shift for us after his leg break, but he was limited as a defender anyway, but his going forward was just brilliant, he's lost the pace, and he can't do it anymore.

Sidibe has came in and shown hes better than Coleman. Do i think he should get a go before Kenny next season? Not sure, but for me 100% time to say goodbye, and end on a good note, and not the same as Howard.

To a lesser extent, we've had the same with Baines because one of our best players of the last decade or so has started to receive criticism, warranted or not.

He was arguably the best left back in the league at the time, however some people will sadly remember him as a waning figure, who stayed around too long.

I agree. Baines was great, but as football evolves and gets quicker and quicker, when you lose that yard of pace it sadly makes it harder to keep up, especially in any of those wider positions. I think Baines will be the exception and definitely go down as an Icon of the past 20 years, his partnership with Pienaar was undeniably amazing.

It would depend on what he wants from whatever time he has left as a player. On the bench as a back up?,or starting weekly?.
Nobody can read his mind. Some players are driven by how much money they can make in what is a relatively short playing career while others want to be on the pitch in front of a crowd. So it's really a question of,do we want to progress as a team and have the best squad available with the funds at our disposal? Or hang on to a player who's career is on a downwards curve?

Take your points on that mate and they are good ones, though maybe it's just me, but I don't think Coleman is that type of player, he clearly loves our club.

Think by next season he'll struggle to be a regular starter here but could do a job at one of the Championship mid-table sides and possibly start every game. Would hate to see him degenerate here to the point where fans looked at him in the same way as some of the wage thieves we have on the books now. Just hope he leaves on a high.

That's exactly it though he does love the club. He knows all he has to do is clap the fans and get a sweat on and he will get a new deal.

Even a 35 year old jagielka with a double chin and a christmas dinner belly still managed to get a new deal.

Yet the players who say I want to win a trophy or play in the best competitions are gift wrapped to man united or sold to the highest bidder.

Very true Phil and here we are in danger of repeating this with Coleman. However if Digne injured who stand in at LB?

Oh don’t get me wrong, in the short term Baines will do a competent job cover, but my point was that for too long we stuck with him as our first choice.

In the medium to long term, we really should be looking at alternative options to cover and challenge Digner rather than nostalgically sticking with Baines.

Nostalgia, sympathy and loyalty are all great in moderation, yet in the mainstay the clubs who succeed are the ones with the best players and squad.

He wont move because he has gone on record as saying he would never play for another English club as he owes everything to Everton.

I mean he could go abroad but he could also just retire. I still think he is perfectly serviceable as a top flight squad player.
