Also we definitely have an effect on the players,
They're only human end of the day,
Ask yourself, do you perform better surrounded with people who believe in you and support you, or people that are negative and doubtful?

I personally think this forum holds no sway in the football club.

Very few players read this place.

The problem stems from Twitter and Instagram where fans abuse the players and of course at stadiums.

If you had a bad game and some egg on Twitter called you a coward, how eager would you be next game to pull your tripe out?

I wasn’t talking about this forum specifically although it’s not absolutely immune to such things , more on a general scale and assessment of the club itself. Twitter is a cesspit, can’t speak for instragram mate , never used it.

I can't see how the fans contributed to Monday night. If so, how?

Monday encapsulated a lot of negative things about Everton in a nutshell, and the negativity after the game was entirely merited and justifiable.

There is always some excuse, some get-out as to why the given crop of players somehow cannot raise their game to get an "unexpected win".

I would have been dancing in the street had we won on Monday, given we NEVER win there and NEVER win at a lot of other places either.

I'm hardly asking for titles and cups.

As I mentioned earlier, successive Everton managers have made comment to fan influence on players. Example;
And now, Carlo Ancelotti has spoke of the requirement for the club to improve the mentality.

Whether the fans can help with that is up for debate - hence the thread/poll.

Which begs the question why are they negative and doubtful? Is it just their personality as a whole or has it stemmed from years of feeling let down and cynicism creeps in the longer it continues. We’d have to ask the individual I suppose . You make a good point tho, it’s a vicious circle.

Yes.

Booing during the match isn't support, its not expecting better, or helping to get the best out of a player its just thick.

What about that negativity, BEFORE a game?

Quick example - we play Southampton later. I tweeted a match preview making reference to us not losing in 14 home games to Southampton. Most fans reacted to that by saying we'll now lose.

So if we talk up the bad likle we NEVER win at Spurs, why do we also downplay any of the good - we'll lose to Southampton?

You must be referring to the fanbase that attends the games? They are the only ones that can have an effect adverse or positive on the team. I am not aware of any negative crowd influence at the home games.
If however you are referring to this or other fan's websites, what we write on here has no influence whatsoever on the team or individual players' performances. We are just talking to each other with no wider audience.

No idea about what?

The thread is asking opinion you clown, there's no absolutes, no right or wrong. It's impossible to prove.
No idea about the question I asked you, you clown. You said we can't just shrug it off, so i'm asking you what it is you think we should do. If you can tell me what exactly it is that the fans could do differently, what effect this would have on the players, and why, then maybe I'd agree with you. I'm being serious, not arsey, it's possible there's something in it, but on the face of it it sounds pretty preposterous. If someone can explain why it isn't then i'm all ears.

I think there is a broad acceptance we aren't very good. Granted, that means we won't get surprise good results often.

But for me, the biggest issue is our results are broadly very predictable.

On balance, I think we'll raise our game and win today. Maybe 60% chance. That's what we do.

On the other hand, I had pretty near 100% certainty we would not/could not win on Monday. A draw maybe, but never a win. That's what we do too.

I can only answer from my personal point of view.
Our away support is different to our home support.
But, when Goodison is behind the team, let’s say from a good tackle, dodgy ref decision against us, then our home fans are different class.
I mentioned Lille away recently in another thread, and our fans that day would have gone absolutely crackers if we’d scored, but the team just let you down.
I’m old enough to have seen great times, and for anyone under 30, our fans have hardly had a sniff of anything great, so negativity is totally understandable.

Because of the performance we just put out against Tottenham? Or our midfield duo making about 3 tackles in one half.

Not so sure mate.

We have several first team players (Bernard, Gomes, Keane) who have spoke of panic attacks or experienced bouts of depression and spoke of them being afraid to leave their homes etc due to various pressures.

I am not aware of any negative crowd influence at the home games.

I think this is a little naive.

I linked Everton managers saying they felt the home crowd was having a negative experience on players - and players themselves have spoke of how online comment impacts them.
