Do we now need a clear statement of intent from the new regime?

Do we need a clear statement from the club on our future?

All this talk of 'no one wants to come to us we aren't big enough' does not explain how we with minimum fuss were able to bring in the Wales captain who nearly led his team to the brink of Euro glory, a born and bred south Londoner with ties to Palace and London (isn't the perceived wisdom we struggle to compete with London in player attractiveness?), and were able to snap up Gueye from Villa for a reasonable fee within a week of selling Stones? Those 3 are not and were not 'unsought' after players.

You think that a 32 year old coming towards the end of his career with the chance of coming to a bigger club with more money, and a lad playing for a Championship club is comparable to us missing out on Perez and Witsel?

We can attract players like Gueye and Williams for obvious reasons, we are a step up for them. Those bigger names rumoured like Mata, Witsel, Koulibaly were never likely to come to the 11th best team in the league. If Koeman can get us back to where Moyes often had us (top 7), we will be in a far better position to be able to attract genuine big names and improve the squad considerably.

The answer is clear, we were and still are in sell to buy mode.

Post those purchases we had enough money or should I say were prepared only to account for a loan deal with West Ham.

Kev think you are clutching at straws to make a mute point.
All the above players were to a certain extent at lesser clubs. We are an upgrade for them. The loan deal makes sense in a way because when he was 1st introduced to the PL he was on fire. Since his injury he has been struggling. No point in splashing £14.5m when we can try him first to see if he can find his initial form.

So what you are saying is that if we succeeded in getting the Napoli or Porto player then you would have been proven that we are NOT a sell to buy club but because we couldn't get them over the line you are now convinced we are a sell to buy club

Brahimi done deal but we wouldn't pay? By all accounts Carvalho in the same boat??

As stated above we wouldn't pay the extra for Brahimi and by all accounts 'financial concerns' stopped the Carvalho deal. And if Bolasie and Gueye were at a lesser clubs so was Sissoko.

Whilst it's disappointing that we didn't strengthen more, particularly with a big name signing, perhaps those in charge didn't think it was worth wasting money on players that wouldn't considerably improve us given the fees involved? There were a lot of reports of various bids, but it seems that for some of the better players we weren't able to bring them in for one simple reason. We have been a lower midtable side for the past 2 seasons with no European football to offer and our reputation in English Football is not particularly high at present. Perez went to Arsenal, Witsel clearly didn't want to come and our final throw of the dice saw Sissoko understandably go to Spurs for CL football.

The "key" player mentioned also handed in a transfer request last season and has given us a £44m profit despite not actually being that great a defender at this moment in time. He has all the potential but his performances on the pitch were not reflecting it. He made numerous errors last season at the back and didn't get chosen for England either. Would the 18 year old Rooney have been left out of the England team at the time? We have replaced him with a far better defender currently in Williams.

The stadium is obviously progressing and will likely be announced at some point in the coming months.

There are some very sensitive people on these forums who have seriously lost it. Need to be kept informed day to day about what the board is doing. Some claiming that if we move to SC it will be the final straw, demanding transfers then whinging when we bring in Bolasie for a high fee. The hysteria on social media with abuse of players, the board the club too.

All because they chose not to waste their money at this moment in time. We replaced the clueless manager we had and replaced him with a big name and have now made our best start to a campaign in 10 years. And people on here are crying like we're the most hard done to fanbase in English Football.

meet the Everton MOFEs.

But you are implying that we couldn't and that we are a sell to buy club. It looks to me that we were not willing to bow down to there extra demands or we just messed up on negotiations which implies that we do have the money to purchase more players but because they never crossed the line it means our net spend is minimal........and that is what is upsetting people to the extent they are convincing themselves and anyone else willing to listen that we are a sell to buy club and had no intention to buy these players regardless of the intense negotiations that took place.

I'm implying we could but we are not due to the ownership refusing to invest.

So why would we go through the negotiations. Seems a far stretched way to appease the fans and a serious waste of time. The stature of our club is what stands in our way. Could you see Lukaku or Stones going to Crystal Palace or the like if they reached agreement on the transfer fee? We are in a similar situation.

He's been a shareholder at Arsenal, not involved in the running of the club. We shouldn't expect him to run the club brilliantly from day one. It's naive.

The manager has been improved, the first 11 and the squad has been improved in every position required, we've kept the most important players at the club and the Mayor is going well out of his way to let us know a ground on the banks of the Mersey(Once something we cried ourselves to sleep about) is on the cards.

Not bad for 6 months..... Let's sack the sense of entitlement and let the man build his business.
