Do you get depressed after an ale binge?

Went to town on Saturday at 2pm, hit some great pubs:

  • Philharmonic
  • Fly in the Loaf
  • The Crown
  • Doctor Duncans
  • Ship and Mitre
  • Lady of Mann
Got the 10pm train, chippy walking home. At 34 the days of 3am clubs are a memory, simply doesn't appeal to me anymore even though I am newly divorced, single and ready to mingle.

I'm defo getting old and it's great. No depression for me yesterday just a clear head and memories of a bloody good day out with my pals.
Fantastic post , bottoms up!

Same here, out on Saturday with a few of the lids bevvying round the arl pubs of town. Was in the Phil too, ace pub.

Been like this today. And it's normal for loads as you get older. Not that it happens every time like.

The key is recognising and moderation to prevent it. Happens more often for me man. Is it only a recent thing for you? Spirits make it worse for me so I stick to beer as much as I can.

Middle age hits most of us. Up the two day hangovers. Long time since weekends right on it and work on Monday off not much sleep. Time has come for daytime drinking with kebab and bus home before town gets busy. I make involuntary sounds when I bend down too.

WTF.

Dear Abby comes to GOT :drunk:

I do something similar when out with mates :

Always get the first round in and drink it slowly. No one usually moans when you duck out of their round.

Rinse and repeat until they're all leathered, by then they don't care.

It's worked for me for years ;)
I very rarely drink out and about any more, just a few quiet ones at home with friends and/or family on a Saturday night. My hangovers were just as bad in the stomach as they were the head department though, so bottles are a great shout. The state of my guts after a pub session lead me to think that most establishments take very poor care of their pumps and ale, and you don't need to worry about that with the bottles. The prospect of getting the runs definitely fuelled my hangover anxiety.

I find drinking german wheat beer doesnt give me a hangover even if i have 7/8 pints of it and it tends to b just under 6%, where if i have the same number of pints of carling at 4% im dying the next day, strange.

It can act as a temporary depressant.

More that's been drunk, the worse it'll be.

In a nutshell. In my younger days, I could shrug it off no problem. These days I feel physically lousy for at least a day but beating myself up mentally for a couple of days after that. Then the rationalization kicks in once I'm feeling better and as long as I didn't end up in the drunk tank or ICU it's "no harm, no foul."
