Does the club need 'rebranding'? Something based around the new location?

Unfortunately the RS have claimed the city's name for their team.

I'm a wool (apparently).
And from my position, the term Merseyside refers to a vague, fuzzy area centered around the Liverpool/Wirral. It's imprecise, and if that's what you want then...fine.

Scouse, to me, is equally imprecise.

I think you're deliberately overstating the knowledge and intelligence of Americans. Yes, many of the 'Ivy Leaguers' are super intelligent (or wealthy). The rest voted Trump.

Only people from 'Scouseland' would believe that The Mersey is the centre of the Universe and yes.

I, personally, wouldn't mind 'Mersey' within a broader package of regional one-upmanship slogans (below the top line but subordinate to it.

We are...
Everton: Liverpool's Premier Club.
Everton: Liverpool's Original Club.

And yes, if you wish, in merchandising...
Everton: Merseysides Premier Club
That's the truth of the matter.

Rebranding doesn't have to be with 'Merseyside' per se. But the proximity to the river demands we use the word 'Mersey' in some capacity in how the club markets this new location we have.

The river is a constantly forming and living thing. Not to get too New Age about it but its energy has to be captured in some way by the club and harnessed in terms of our new profile (a change that will inevitably happen now given this historic move) just as in the same way as its actual energy is captured, stored and exploited by renewable energy suppliers.

Everton is sacrosanct; but how we choose to position and present our place in Liverpool now is a matter for careful choice. We should be bold and claim the river that's been the source of life for the city since it was established.

That's how we outflank Liverpool; that's how we reinvigorate Everton as much as any upturn in our fortunes on the pitch.

It's synonymous with us too.... they don't own the city. Just like we don't own the district of Everton. I've no problem whatsoever with proclaiming association with the city of Liverpool..... I feel that historic branding is more than strong enough.....

That's conceivably what Villa could do with the city of Birmingham. But that's because Birmingham City haven't got a huge palmares that overhangs a largely unsuccessful Villa in recent years and therefore Birmingham the name isn't counterproductive for Villa to utilise. In our case that's not true.

Liverpool is not synonymous with Everton FC to anyone beyond football - and even within football circles for the most part only domestically is Everton associated with the city, internationally that wont be the case.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, but just saying that "the name Liverpool belongs to us" over and over again isn't changing that reality.

I re-emphasise two things at this point:

1/ this is not about a name change for the club
2/ the city of Liverpool is our home and that isn't up for debate either

We already have it though Dave, not new, not ‘engineered’ by some PR mn, we are on the ‘Banks of the Royal Blue Mersey’.
That's my point entirely. It's not forced; it's a natural development.

Leave the PR man out of it and that still holds true.

'Rebranding' here just means acknowledging that we have been handed a chance to exploit the natural world in such a devastating way to the detriment of Liverpool FC.

Do we really think that lot wouldn't be claiming the river...a river that's handed the city its life and wealth...and its most obvious precious commodity - its people...??

Of course they would. They'd be all over it.

Another capital idea: a really loud mist horn before kick off and let's replace the toffeelady with a drunk docker picking fights with opposition fans.

It's already being done. The stadium roof stylistically incorporates the water mass that runs alongside it.

Not that great a step to keep playing that riff really is it?

It's certainly not as absurd as you seems to think.

Don't rename Everton, don't need to include Liverpool, dont need a new tagline,
Simply name the new stadium 'The Mersey Stadium' or 'The Merseyside Stadium'
That way we become bigger than our rivals without spending a penny.
Use the word Mersey or Merseyside in all our communications and get sponsored next year by someone with that in their name.
In other words make Everton and Merseyside synonymous.

Are there any clubs in England named after a river????
Start a new brand ladder with the stadium.

The MerseyTravel stadium?

Horrible term 'rebranding' like, but you can bet the new owners will have been thinking along these lines. I can imagine them thinking:

"Gee, we're named after a district in Liverpool while Liverpool take the whole city? How do we look to improve this...?"

Regardless of what TFG may or may not be thinking, I wonder if there's big opportunity to right a historic wrong here, given we now sit slap bang on the banks of the Mersey?

Positioning the club (accurately) as Merseyside's club has to be something we look at to get the club back to where we were - the premier club in the locality.

Not a name to change to Merseyside FC, of course. That'd be absurd. The name Everton is sacrosanct. But we could use something to do with 'Merseyside' to replace the 'People's Club' pitch that's now fallen into disuse.

Thoughts?
A big car park would have been nice or a ferry from Seacombe etc arriving at the rear of the stadium plus a 60,000 capacity - no rebranding as What's our name EVERTON ......

No-one is saying the term "Liverpool" belongs to us..... it's just not an issue, it doesn't have to.! The terms "Mersey" and "Merseyside" are relative unknowns world wide too. I would say given the premier League's worldwide popularity, it ensures our name is already far more well known too. There can also be great branding value in subtlety, intrigue and even exclusivity...... the branding is the new stadium, it speaks for itself effortlessly (the best way), without the need of any soundbites nor forced or exaggerated "associations". At the end of the day, we've been singing about the "banks of the Royal Blue Mersey" and "the men that come from Merseyside, who sail the seven seas" for over half a century..... the real valuable branding is formed by success, both historical and going forward.

I quite like the term 'The Originals' personally is it does cover a few bases off with just one word - the original team in the city and one of the original founders of the football league.

Get a consistently winning team and some silverware to go with it - and it will rebrand its self

100%, we’ve been at a huge disadvantage for too long with our current branding.

Most fans around the world don’t know Everton is in Liverpool.

It’s been a massive disadvantage and neglect ted for too long.

Be a really difficult thing to balance it now.
Most fans around the world who follow the Premier League will know about the Merseyside Derby. Are you saying they don't know the clubs that play it?
