2018/19 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

There is a reoccurring theme with Calvert Lewin's goals and the opposition. (R) means relegated that season.

Hull (R), Ruzomberok, Sunderland x2 (R-L1), Watford, Huddersfield, Swansea (R), Rotherham x2, Huddersfield, Crystal Palace

He has scored against the following top 6 sides, all while we were at least 2 goals behind... Chelsea (Cup) - losing 2-0 and he scored in added time, Arsenal while we were 4-0 down, and Saturday v City when we were 2-0 down.

If we're to make the step up to that next level with him in the side, we're going to need him to start scoring far more and against better opposition in important moments and not consolations.

He has the best goals per minute ratio at the moment with a goal every 160 minutes. Which might not be considered great but when you consider how much he has played it’s actually not a bad return at all. He just needs to be more clinical because the way we set up he will get chances. He is marginally better the Richarlison who’s goal to minute ratio is a goal every 161 minutes so he can’t be as bad as some people think

He's scored 8 in 58 in the Premier League, and 14 in 71 in all competitions, with the cup goals coming against very poor opposition.

His goal per minute ratio doesn't really say a lot because Niasse would have had an excellent one last season, doesn't mean he's what we need in the side. Niasse also had a ratio of about 1 in 3, whereas Calvert Lewin generally scores about 1 goal every 5 or 6 games.

People use goals per minute to say Niasse is worth a punt but then refuse to use goals per minute to show DCL isn’t that bad.

Saying 8 in 58 PL appearance is completely misleading as an example to that being 3 of those appearances constituted 3 minutes on the pitch this season.

And being used on the wing, and playing up front for sides that create 0 chances.

If we sell those two it will only be because a new striker is coming in.

To the play the remainder of the season with DCL as the only striker would be Koeman levels of mismanagement.

With Niasse not getting a kick we wouldn’t miss him at all. Cenk’s played a bit but DCL could’ve easily played in his place when he’s been on.

I’d much rather us give DCL a decent amount of gametime instead of splitting it between him and Cenk and giving them barely any time on the pitch.

Worse goal ratio than anichebe
They actually have the same in the premier league per the ever so reliable wikipedia (0.14 goals per game or 1 in 7). However its better if you do it to the same point in Anichebe's career, by 0.05 goals per game. Albeit very marginable and irrelevant as both records are poor. But he is definitely better than Vic.

He shouldered it in beautifully.

Let's face it though, any side ahead of us in the league, a player like DCL would be out on loan developing his game. He's a nice prospect, but should not be starting games for Everton.

He needs to find his position, which he will not do in this current set up being shifted from wing to striker, bench to starting, etc. Get him in the Championship for a year and let him develop and judge him in 2020.

Can't believe Anichebe actually spawned a megabucks deal to play in China ffs. I note it all went tits up and the club is trying to sue him though, haha.

A baby elephant is better than anichebe

That is a fair point.

It's definitely an area of his game that needs to improve though - scoring more regularly.

Niasse has also played every single minute as a centre forward - usually when we are attempting to pepper the goal.

Calvert Lewin has played right wing back, right wing, left wing, all over the shop basically (his breakthrough season he didnt play a minute centre forward).
Also his starts tend to come against the better teams, who nayturally are tighter, tougher and generally better opposition.

I just think he's OK, he's got a bit of everything without having a lot of any of it. If we want to progress we need to get someone better than any of the strikers we currently have. But if we were selling the strikers we have, I'd let Tosun and Niasse go before DCL
