2019/20 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He’s had several seasons now, Marcus. This isn’t based off a few games. It’s a lack of improvement over a long period of time. Patience has been granted. Patience that he wouldn’t get at the truly top clubs, where the bar is set higher.

Fans are quite rightly asking us to raise the bar higher than DCL. Stop giving him the 9 shirt. Stop giving him starts. Raise the bar and he either steps up with it or he doesn’t.

It’s frustrating. He hasn’t shown anywhere near enough to warrant the game time that he’s had. Wouldn’t make the bench at any other team with top 6 aspirations, let alone teams actually in the top six.

If we stuck him on the transfer list tomorrow, I’m not sure many PL teams would show interest, even at a modest fee like £10m. Sheffield United at a push?

He is playing because we don't have many options until Kean is up to speed and he is still only a 19 year old.

Niasse is our most potent striker....

And that’s precisely the point....Why is he an option?

More to the point, why is Niasse an option?

Why are we resting the bulk of our attacking potency on an untested 19 year old kid?

The best teams, the best managers are utterly ruthless. We are not. We are behaving like a mid-table club with a Champions League budget.

Any other manager and club would have immediately binned all of our strikers out on loan and replaced them with more adequate quality in line with the clubs expectations.

It’s not good enough. Nowhere near good enough and we’re seeing the realisation of that week in week out already - zero goal threat.

Don’t expect things to change while we’re still pussyfooting around with players who are patently not good enough for the level we aspire to reach.

west ham have a better attack than us. so do norwich, bournemouth, wolves, leicester, even brighton do...

And at the same time if people had suggested we sign someone like a Pukki before he had that amazing run of form last season they would have been roasted on here

Sometimes for a striker it just clicks, like it did for him last season

He was rotten at Celtic, but slotted for fun last season and is now leading the line for a Premier League team

Basically, DCL still has time

Let's not act like Michu and Pukki are the rule, rather than the exceptions. He's had a great start but it's also only 3 games (one of which included a hat-trick). He may have started the season well but I still don't think he'll score 20+ goals in the league this season. Happy to be vaulted on that one.

West Ham recognised they were short of quality up front and sold three strikers this summer, signing two in Haller and Ajeti to give them options up front. Those may or may not work out but the simple fact is, we know we're short of options up front and haven't done enough to rectify it.

It's an awful lot of pressure to put on an untested 19 year old in his 1st season in England. Irrespective of how Kean does, it's yet another systematic failure from Silva and the club.

that miss when he found the ball in front of him 1,5 metres away from the goal, it is confirmed this guy won't cut it. next year he will follow the path JonJoe did, good luck

Richarlison?

If Silva doesn't want to start Kean in the next league game, surely has to be richarlison up top with Bernard and iwobi on the wings.

It isn't good enough. There were mistakes made in the recruitment of strikers for years. But the difference is we aren't in the position to attract top strikers like the CL teams so we have to take punts on potential like Kean. That being said I do think we needed a more experienced PL standard striker to replace Tosun/Niasse.

Burnley's Barnes has cored 19 goals in the PL in 2019, how many has DCL slotted????

Bringing Osman back would be better at least he knows where the goal is!

Ashley Barnes has 13 Premier League goals in 16 appearances in 2019.

Dominic Calvert Lewin has 11 Premier League goals since 2016 (almost 80 appearances), this is his 4th season with us.

Yes, a 19 year old can get us into the top 6.

But regardless, the club doesn't think he's a top striker or else they wouldn't have bought Kean. I just don't understand why people have such a problem with DCL. We know he's not good enough, so does the club. He's only in there due to a lack of options. Kean will play soon and be an improvement.

It's because we deserve better than that. It's been poor form for a supposed big club like ourselves to have had one proper striker in over 10 years. Think we, as fans, are sick of watching mediocrity, that's all.
