2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The first of which was when he was 18. How many of those games did he start?

Age is an important factor. Whenever Dom's age has been brought up, posters on both side of the debate fall over themselves to post extreme examples. Vardy and Rooney are often mentioned. But these examples are the exception to the rule. The rule that means Dom is on a trajectory that is followed by the vast majority of footballers. A trajectory that sees players at their best in their mid - late 20's.

Lewin has had plenty of game time and patience to prove himself and it wasn't that long ago the lad couldn't hit a barn door. Now he is carrying his form on from last season and is starting to look a player, and I hope the lad can now go on and be a top player.

68 goals is some top stat padding from the overrated one isn't it to be fair. About 50 against lower half sides, when already 1 or 2 goals up. .....

Even the inter fans have him sussed as a flat track bully.... He cost them champions League knockout cos his arse went against Barca's B side. Had 4 clear cut chances ..... Awful.
Cost inter the uefa cup with that woeful control of his.

Anyway.... you don't need to worry about him he's had his last big prrm move which he blew.... He will be off from inter soon enough.

:hayee:

A very good player who had a lot of purple patches in a row.

How is he hun? Did you collect his runners up medal for him, that was a bit of an own goal wasn't it..... Not the one he scored to gift the game away but not collecting the medal.

If he doesn't get a winners medal do you think they may give him a medal for scoring loads against Calgary and Pisa and stuff? Maybe include the goals he scored against Belgian postmen that had him scoring more goals than Messi before receiving his national insurance card or whatever it was.

DCL scores winners in world cup finals.... Wins the cup for his team, not gives it away ..... Important that.

Do you reckon those Inter fans will be happy with Lukaku's 26 goals from 39 Serie A games for Inter.

*Cagliari, that one is in Canada, Pedro.

No look, Lukaku is excellent, that's not really in doubt. And DCL's playing well, you're back and that's great, hopefully both you and DCL continue for a bit longer.

DCL has 118 prem games, 30 goals. 140 games in all comps and 41 goals, and with time served under Allardyce, no midfield and no penalty additions (unlike Lukaku who replaced Baines just to boost his ego/market value with better numbers).

Not to mention, DCL started as a midfielder and has had to learn how to finish. I should think that after this season, DCL’s stats wouldn’t be too far off Lukaku

DCL is playing really well and that is as much down to the entire team balance as individual brilliance.

The team in the mid 80's complimented each others skillset all over the pitch. Comparisons have already been drawn to members of that vintage team, with some of the additions this summer.

Football is indeed a simple game, but it needs a coherent and well drilled unit to really hit the heights.

Dom has always had the ability, it was just never really coached properly to bring out his best.

The best part is, we could argue a better goalkeeper and a pacey right sided quality player would see this team without an obvious weakness.

Such a turnaround to last season.

....I wouldn’t compare the two as they are different types. Lukaku is and will always be a top goalscorer, a terrific finisher but CF play is more than goalscoring. I’ve been to games when Lukaku offered very little, he’s not helped his team when they needed him for other skills than goalscoring.

Lukaku is a top scorer but he’s not a rounded striker. The very best strikers are rounded strikers, they offer something to their team when they are under the cosh.

DCL will not have Lukaku’s goalscoring capability but he could be a more rounded striker. The best strikers are more rounded.

I think he should be credited for listening to Duncan and Ancelotti. They saw he had significant limitations in his game (passing, holding the ball up, basically anything outside of the box) and said to him "get in the box and hit it first time". He's really improved now that he's listened to them (and if I am humble , several of us on here) and is implementing these changes.

He's had an eyebrow raising start to the season.

Don’t think he’ll ever be a Harry Kane type who can score a goal from nothing but he’s doing what he should be as a number 9; getting on the end of crosses. If he can keep up this form he should really be looking to score 30 goals this season.
