People think he should have what offered Hendo out and had a go in the box like a modern day Dyer and Bowyer?

If you're criticizing him for this you're just waiting for any possible reason to do so.
I said it earlier in the football thread but I'm thinking it's going to benefit Southgate to see if he can be counted on to take pens and he doesn't look like he is consistent enough to be reliable. Penalties are a massive problem for England

Im not blaming DCL legs Henderson was the clown but my point was DCL's reaction wasn't the kind I like to see in a player who we have hopes of taking the next step and being a top level player.

99% of top players are arrogant/confident whatever you want to call it - an 18 year old Rooney holds onto that ball because he believes that he's the best doesn't matter that he isn't a "senior" player.

That belief is what separates good from great players and thats why we dont achieve anything as we haven't those sorts of players at the club.

Look at how the top sides players hound the referees etc.
Lineker was often labelled as “nice” - didn’t stop him from being a superb world-class striker and absolutely lethal at spot kicks. Not indulging in pointless anger also meant he never got sent off leaving his team in the lurch as Rooney did.

Make no mistake that Gobshites decision to take the penalty from DCL was centred on club rivalry and nothing else.

….I think it was centred on Henderson being the only midfielder to play 50 games & not score a goal.

I actually think Henderson is a top pro & a vastly underrated player. He got this one dreadfully wrong on both those points.

Not sure if you noticed, but after the incident broke down you can see Henderson saying “sorry Dom”. He got it wrong, nothing to do with club rivalry, indeed he’s come out of it very poorly.

Oh I agree… but DCL can’t stop Henderson from being a muppet. His options were either argue with his captain, or don’t.

And Keane would have lost his mind if anyone had started chopping off at him.

Yep, massive critic of DCL and always happy to criticize him but done nothing wrong here.

Seems almost like hendo was being half petty to "get one up" with the Liverpool fans.

Horrid little scrote that he is

Then he should blame his captain who overruled him

He should completely - its not a case of DCL being right or wrong its more his reaction tells me he hasn't that level of arrogance/self belief that the top level strikers have.

Its not asking him to have fisticuffs with Henderson its him doing what all top level forwards do and back themselves and keep hold of the ball "I'm having this one captain". Its not like Henderson is the nominated pen taker he had no business doing that to DCL.

I can’t see any scenario where Dom can say/do anything that would have changed Henderson‘s decision.

So if Dom had argued with him and Henderson had still missed then DCL would have been blamed for unsettling him!

Once the captain made the initial decision to take the penalty there weren’t any great options for Dom to take, just a series of worse ones.

The captain took the ball off him. I dont think its reasonable to expect him to kick off at his teammate wearing the armband. In fact I think its a bit ridiculous to blame him and not Henderson.

…absolutely. Also, i’ve not seen anybody praise DCL for his part in winning that penalty. He knew he was going to get taken out, but he still put his head into the challenge, days before a major international tournament.

Don’t doubt his commitment, don’t think he’s too nice.

Maybe, yet it's not and never has been part of his game so desperation perhaps did play a part in his decision making.

So because the captain acts like a bell everyone else should just accept it?

Nonsense imo - like I said if a 22 year old Kane or Rooney were in his position then they take that pen and balls to upsetting "Hendo".

…I suspect he saw it as an opportunity, possibly a last opportunity to score a goal at international level. It was a poor professional stance by a footballer I think is a good processional.

I actually thought DCL had a decent game. His link play was good (at half-time Roy Keane said Grealish had linked really well in creating the chance for Sancho when it was DCL). He hit the bar with a crashing header. i’m sure Southgate took him off for fear of injury, he’s an important player to have available.

I'd say more like, the captain acts like a bell and has to face the backlash for doing so given that it ended in a miss. Honestly agree with the thought that if Dom would have argued or made a scene it would have just worsened the situation. He either argues with Saint Hendo and gets criticised and puts more pressure on himself to score, or Henderson take it anyway, misses, and then DCL gets blamed for unsettling him.
It's a fine between being arrogant and aware - the fact is, Henderson wouldn't have the balls to disrespect the likes of Kane to 'pull rank'. He had to have known that Dom still green at that level and was less likely to object too vicariously, bully behaviour it was.
