But then you just go full circle back to the argument that a striker who is only dangerous when high quality crosses are put into the box may actually cause just as many problems as he solves. It also doesn't do anything to refute the point that 90% of 'good' crosses are only deemed good because someone got on the end of them. There's the 10% (maybe less to be honest) where a ball is put in to such a good area that you say someone really had to get on the end of that, but the overwhelming majority of crosses are just balls put into a vaguely dangerous area; if a striker has made a good run and got away from his man to nod it into the net it goes down as a good cross, if the striker is stood on his heels behind the centre half who clears it then it doesn't. I remember Gray putting one in in the first half against Newcastle (not when DCL was on) which was not a bad ball at all in it's own right, but when you saw that there was absolutely nobody in the box at the time he did it you realise it was a pretty stupid thing to do.
And our strikers aren't even getting that. But it's all their fault...

Yeh, meanwhile we expect him to get hat-tricks from pinging 60 yarders to him, back to goal against two 6 foot3 grocks with no runners along side him.
And when we had some vaguely creative players in the squad (Digne, James, Sigurdsson) he scored fairly regularly. Funny that isn't it?

No one is claiming DCL is elite here but Christ, he's nowhere near as bad as the echo chamber blues on here make out.

He scored 5 in 20 in the second half of last season. The “service” was the same. He had a purple patch. He’s an average striker and is proving to be as such.

Maybe have a look at some other threads mate? You might be shocked to find that people don't think it's all DCL's fault, and that some people are just not steadfastly refusing to accept that he could be doing any better in the same way you are.
At no point have I suggested he shouldn't be doing better. But the criticism has to be measured. Are the reasons why he's not doing better largely due to his deficiencies? Absolutely not. The majority of the blame for his current lack of form lies at the feet of his teammates and their abundant lack of quality.

I’ve never understood the urge for him to be a penalty box striker when he’s so tall, athletic, fast and with great pace and hold skills. He should be an all round striker really, so that would mean making his own chances too. He’s got the capability I believe.
Yep. He’s probably one of the most gifted athletes in the league when fully fit. Complete waste of his talents trying to turn him into Van-Nistlerooy lite. Especially when his finishing ability is so hit and miss.

Absolute fire drip though ?
