2021/22 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

There is no such thing in the Premier League as an 'English quota', there is only a requirement of certain number of 'Home Grown' players. 'Home Grown' means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the FA for at least three years before they turn 21 – it does not mean that they have to be English.

Cesc Fabregas, for example, joined Arsenal at 16 and was classed as a homegrown player despite being a Spanish international.

Right, but you know what I meant.

Same as Gordon, he won’t leave because he will not push to leave and nobody is seriously interested at the fee we would ask.

£30m and teams would consider it. £45m gets you Gabriel Jesus. A little bit more gets you Haaland and Nunez. Even Vlahovic.

There is no way any team pays £60m for Calvert Lewin after the season he has just had.

A fully fit Calvert Lewin is a lot better than Jesus IMO.

Haalands real fee is a lot higher mate, 100m plus and huge wages. Nunez has gone for 75m and.has had 1 good season in a league outside of the top 5 leagues. Vlahovic is in Italy, right? Again not much history if their strikers coming in and doing well here.

I can see why Newcastle would be stupid enough to pay 60m. They paid 25m for Chris Wood.

Crucially none of the above would go to Newcastle as well. DCL will.

We should obviously take the 60m offer and run. Theres no guarantee he can get fully fit again.

I was thinking the other day though, how stupid Arsenal were to give for Jesus over DCL. DCL gives you a lot more.

Well he’s better than Jesus and worse than the others, so his fee should sit in the middle, thanks for clarifying that.

And in fairness, the fee for Haaland is a lot higher than 54m. When everything is factored in.

Its also kind of irrelevant, as Haaland or Nunez are not going turn down City/Liverpool for City.

DCL makes a lot of sense for them. Hes an upgrade on Wood.

Before signing for Newcastle, Chris Wood’s goals per minute was very similar to DCL. Obviously that transfer has not worked out and Newcastle need more fire power. DCL would be an upgrade on Wood because he is younger and can improve but I disagree he is even as good as Jesus.

The same people a few weeks ago saying Richarlison would and should go for £70 or even £80m are the same ones believing £60m for DCL. No team would pay that for him. There is better value elsewhere.

I'm surprised so many of you are happy to sell our only recognised striker currently when we just sold our best player and finished 16th last year?! There's no guarantee we would replace the goals.

Well a few things.

Wood is 30, DCL is 25. And as you say hes an upgrade. So he is going to be more, probably substantially more than Wood.

On some reports, the total fee for Richarlison is 70m. You had him valued at significantly lower than that. I think you're making the same mistake again here.

We can all argue about who is worth what. For me, Jesus would not have scored the goals DCL would have done in our team over recent years. The caveat for DCL is his fitness. If he hadnt had serious injury, I'd be wanting more than that. But given his injury, I can see why we would want 60m ish and I can also see why Newcastle would pay it.

He is very similar stylistically to Wood, younger, more rounded and better and would go there. There is a premium for that.

Wouldn’t agree with you there mate, think Jesus is a much better player than Dom, I’m tipping him big time next season, City really under-utilised him, jobbing him around the squad, think he will take of next season and Arsenal got a steal.

Wouldnt sell DCL incidently, too much change to soon and to many potential goals taken out of the team with him and Richarlison, change is never a bad thing, but a key skill is being able to manage change incrementally.
