2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I genuinely think there's mad strawman arguments going on here on both sides regarding the lad. I was a huge fan of him, especially under Carlo, he's still our best forward but it must be said he's absolutely a fraction of what he was before and has now become injury prone. I couldn't care less what he does outside of football but when your main career is a footballer and you spend most of your time on the physio's table and promoting yourself as well as your fashion then of course people are gonna come after him. It works both ways for him, because he's more open to advertising himself you can hear him maybe being talked about for a place in the England squad (until he got injured) despite the fact he's only played about 20 times in the last year and a half scoring like 6 goals and others like Ings, Wilson, Abraham, Watkins and obviously Toney doing far better than him in that same period.

No one genuinely cares about his fashion or whatever, the issue comes with his job being a footballer which he's paid well that then enables him to do these things. If someone like Ronaldo wants to go on a fashion shoot or show or whatever then no one will say a thing because he's an icon, this season already we've seen Dom, Davies and Gordon all show up here and there, even to training looking like they want to get their picture out there for some attention, that's what winds people up.

They come off as some no mark footballers playing for an awful team trying to gain notoriety for being "different" instead of showcasing themselves on the pitch and then getting people clamouring for them. It's not just our fans that do it, we only see it because it's our players. People ripped the piss out of Grealish for ages, even before he went to City. Now look at him, he plays in the best team arguably in the world, playing in the CL every year and could win it this year, worth £100m, will finish his career drowned in trophies and medals and now has big brands coming to him for massive deals and all the while he actually plays and even though he's a bit overrated at least he's actually rated.

Difference between a player who thinks he's made it, like Dom, Davies and Gordon do here, versus one that actually has made it in Grealish.

Players at this club dont stand a chance.

The poor lad has had a very rough 2 years, do the fanbase support him? Do they heck, they groan at games, abuse him, wish long term injury on him and make sly digs regarding his sexuality.

Many things have changed over the years owner, managers, players, but the 1 thing has remained constant. Angry "supporters" who project their sad little lives on to the players.

Support your number 9 or dont, but dont use him to vent your anger at still living in your mums basement at 40 years old.
It's proper mad in here. Remember being told I'm against the club and not a real blue for not backing a manager, yet pop your head in here, in Gordon's thread, in pattersons thread, up until the end of last season iwobis thread, in lampards thread, mykos thread , hell I was seeing comments appearing about tarks in a thread the other day.

We saw what fans backing the team and players can achieve but the minute we survived, it's back to the crap that came before it. And the digs about his clothes and sexuality etc are just ignorant and bigoted and shows how classless and out of touch the posters making them are.

I’ve edited my post to include the fact that Steven Naismith scored from clean through the vast majority of the time while Calvert-Lewin misses the majority.

Haaland has been brought up because some of our fans like to pretend that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is an elite striker. If that’s the case then let’s compare him to actual elite strikers in the interests of fairness and see how he gets on.
Nobody thinks he is Haaland though!

Just saying Naismith scored when clean through the majority of times doesn't make it true! He wasn't a bad finisher to be fair though.

Obviously not going to change your mind here, never intended to, but you will always be disappointed with any strikers we have or get with such high and unrealistic standards. Not remotely saying we should be happy with our current set up, make more chances, that's the biggest problem right now.

I was among the positive people on here, thinking he only needed a run of games to get fit again. But this injury now, was a big hit to my positivity. Im starting to, sadly, think he is injury prone now too. Hoping it will work itself out for him and us, but this is looking dark.

I think this is true for all our players, and we're lucky Iwobi got through this to come out the other side a good player.
We have had very very inconsistent (to put it kindly) management, coaching and tactics - particularly unsettling for young developing players. Now we're finally seeing both on and off the pitch some development in our style, passion, recruitment and results - of course we're still not far off relegation, but we're showing good signs of long-term changes.

Why can't we support our players even if they're playing badly? Why can't we keep our criticism to football , tactical , 'effort on the pitch' and such issues. I hate it when we abuse ourplayers for their personality and our imagined sense of how hard they are trying and how they seem to get injured on purpose.
I absolutely agree with you but it's probably down to being meh for 20 plus years. I think people are just bored of it all and need to vent.

The abuse or comments about life styles etc have little or nothing to do with the match going crowd who judge according to performances in front of them on the pitch. There were plenty of v signs from the few left in the Bullens Rd after the Leicester debacle aimed at the 2 or 3 players who maybe foolishly came to applaud the supporters. Players don't see the keyboard abuse of their perceived lifestyle sometimes seen on e.g. GOT. Davies who is a crap footballer, attracted his share on GOT for his choice of dressing. Nobody who goes to the match cares what they wear, arriving at or leaving Goodison.

Thats simply not true.

Social media shapes the fans.

People read things and form opinions.

I thought the crowd reaction on Sat was telling when he went off.

Didn't exactly raise the rafters did it and many around me didn't even clap or did so only half-heartedly

He's still our best forward but he's now very frustrating in his effort , skill levels and match fitness.

It is an insult to fellow human beings to say they are shaped by social media. Most of it is trash or worse. America is a shambles because so many follow a dangerous twerp like Trump and his ludicrous tweets. Twitter is garbage.
